What is the purpose of life.

To me the purpose of life is to live. We justify our existence by the actions we perform. I wonder, if there is an all-loving god, then why does he torture us by giving us sentience and then not helping us figure out the question that plagues the whole human race. What is our purpose? what is the purpose of anything? why does this whole world even exist if its just gonna end and start over anyway? I htink it is because somewhere there is more life and the purpose of the universe is to find a way to spread life to all dimensions of existence. That is the purpose of all humans to a whole. The purpose of one person in particualr or just me is to further this cause by... erm... continuing the line of my species.

Now of course eventually we are goingt to run out of room, so reproduction will slow down and there will be a celibate century while everyone tries to figure out how to get off this god-forsaken rock we call Earth.

I see my purpose in life is to weed out the weak and stupid by beating them out of jobs etc. I want power. I lust for it and crave for it, but society keeps me from having it. It is the fire that burns deep inside everyone driving them to strive for greatness. For recognition. Each human is like an empire building itself up for war. Some are more adept tactitians whilst others are merely strong. Life is a battlefield where empires rise and fall. We merely need to take a step raise our sword and drive the others back.

Okay I wanna get in on this one because I am studying to be a COTA.

PURPOSE=The object toward which one strives or for which something exists; an aim or a goal.

LIFE=The property or quality that distinguishes living organisms from dead organisms and inanimate matter, manifested in functions such as metabolism, growth, reproduction, and response to stimuli or adaptation to the environment originating from within the organism.

Not just put it together and you have a purpose for life.

Technically, no. "42" is the answer to the Ultimate Question. Sadly, we don't know what the question is.

Among the amaZulu, during the time of Shaka, a man received the headring of an elder at 42 and was allowed, for the first time to rise up and speak his private thoughts aloud at tribal council. He was relieved of his duties as a warrior, given his share of the Royal cattle, and entitiled to buy young wives, settle back, drink beer and play dice.

Among the Chinese. during the time of Confucius, a man was expected to have mastered his craft at 42. He was relieved of his duties as a civil servant in order to attend to his own estate, father sons and pass on his learning.

These are forgotten wisdoms from our past. Today men (boys) marry at twenty and are divorced before thirty and contradict the widoms of their elders without pause.

42 is the period of male menopause. This is when the first grey appears in the beard and wisdom arrives to leaven pseudo-intellectualism. It is an ideal time for a man to marry and take on the full responsibilities of husbandry and community leadership.

I think the problem is how we look at the term "Purpose".

We tend to ascribe characteristics to the universe which are manlike. And I don't know that this is a valid thing to do. It results in our having to posit a God as causing us and look what that has done.

We are a product of the universe and are driven into existence by forces we don't understand. I know this because I'm here and you're reading this. We exist.

It might be valid to ask 'how' we come to be. But 'why'? I'm not sure it's a valid statement. Maybe when we know how, then perhaps asking why makes sense. To do so earlier than that gets us running in pretty much random directions.

As well they should. It's not as if we've reached stunning new insights by shutting up because old men told us to do so. New insight very often comes from a young mind, one not hampered by old and rigid ideas and preconceptions. Age does not bring wisdom, and I would bet you that if the elder were truly wise, they'd appreciate and welcome the insights brought to them from a beginner's mind.

Poetic, but nonsense. The gray in the beard does not start at 42... Like some cosmic hair dye sits dormant and is only brought out after 42 revolutions around the sun. I don't even know where to begin with that comment. :esheriff:

Would you like to explain cortisol and hormones? Telemeres? Melanin? Genetics? Melanocytes? Pigmentation? Albinism? Malnutrition? Anemia? Werner Syndrome? Oxidation? What the hair color was before it began changing? Seriously... I suppose fingernails are the result of magic little fairies pulling us through existence too?

New technology yes. But very liittle insight into the human condition. I should know. I and my entire peer group was there too - remember. All of us look back now and smile, some more ruefully than others.

Age does not bring wisdom,

Yeah. Today it brings on Alsheimers. I would watch out for that after a remark like that.

One learns from out of the mouths of babes continuously. Years of experience upon which to relate and give perspective to each novel insight, makes the learning all that more holistic.

I see... you are so very wise that you cannot open your eyes.

A relatively clever retort being your very last resort.

To attack is easy, but it seems looking at things freshly makes you queasy.

This is a dumb little rhyme, with you I'm done wasting my time.

Enjoy the closed mind and a life of lost insights brought from other perspectives. :)

Age does not bring wisdom,

The gray in the beard does not start at 42..:

No, but age can bring cunning and youth is wasted on the young

An orthomolecular specialist I knew told me that the hair greyed because the liver starts to pack it in. So it might have something to do with alcohol consumption.

Or it could be racial I went to an Irish (Guinness) Concert once and was amazed that most middle aged men their had grey hair. I don't think the Irish drink that much so it couldn't be that.
