There was little old lady who was walking down the road.

She was struggling with bags from Tesco.

There were people from the city having lunch in the park;

I believe that is called Al Fresco.

Then a kid came along

to offer a hand, but before she had time to accept it:

He hits her over the head, doesn't care if she's dead,

'cause he's got all her jewelry and wallet.

Lily Allen.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was walking through my mind, through a place that it's been taking me lately

I was looking all around at things I thought only the insane see.

There was a horse hung from a tree by his neck, staring at me

and midget people surrounding him, waiting for him to die.

As I passed them by they took their forks and knives and each took a slice of me and they laughed for they were happy people.

But I did not bleed.

Instead worms and maggots slithered from my body and I could smell the stench of my innards.

And a thousand ugly birds descended from the darkened sky to feast upon them.

And the vultures ate of the horse, still staring at me;

while the midget people wept, now saddened at their loss for they could not reach the vultures with their knives.

Then I turned and waded through the worms and maggots, fighting off the birds, and climbed a tree and waited for the wounds to heal.

Sleeping Beauty 2020

Nelson Thompson

August 2005

I flew o'er farms and fathoms,

I flew on fiery wing.

I stripped the clouds of moonlit gleam, and

Fashioned me a string.

I raced above the stratosphere,

My face turned to the stars.

And with my moonlit string of light

I cast a line to Mars.

Entwined about the planet red

The string held fast and tight.

I gripped it with two frantic fists

And pulled with all my might.

I swung away swift from the Earth

As Mars did haul me high.

On string I wove from dimmest rays

Of moonbeams on the fly.

A point of light, a dot of red,

A disk of ancient blood,

I neared my destination, till

Upon its ground I stood.

I felt below me silent sand

In whisper still of night.

My pounding heart was in my ears,

All blackness filled my sight.

The night began to loose its grip,

The shadows took on names.

The stars declared their presence

And spoke to me in flames.

They spoke of many billion years;

A planet dead and cold,

Awaiting that first footstep

Of a voyager so bold.

A planet that once was alive

with a million crawling things.

Waters edged with green and blue,

Bubbling up from secret springs.

Alas, the water boiled to space

For lack of gravity.

A world cried in anguish keen

At its mortality.

The Sun looked down on dying Mars

And heard its gasping plea:

"Please save the children of my sand;

"Please save my shrinking sea!"

The orb of light in sanguine heat

Did stretch a loving hand.

"I cannot help you here and now.

But hark! -- I know who can."

"Close your planetary eyes,

and know that I am with you.

Your salvation shall arise,

And come to resurrect you."

"Sleep, my child, surrender, die.

But this my promise to you:

That thou shall wake an eon hence,

To seas of green and sky blue."

The stars fell silent overhead.

The keening wind did wane.

My tears did tumble from my face

And fell on Mars like rain.

Sweat and blood sprang forth also,

Kissed desiccated soil.

The mountains and the valleys shook

And clouds began to roil.

Tufts of green and blue appeared,

Deep, secret springs did groan.

The air was turbulent, awash

With heat and ice and stone.

The promise kept, Mars did awake,

And flourished from her torpor.

Man had come, to touch her face,

To give her Life -- and love her.

Good one posted, Pyrotex...!

Thank you, Boerseun, quick responder,

How did you read that so fast, I wonder.

And clever wit, you came back with a poem!

To recognize talent, you have to be one to know 'em.

But I'm not a redneck, I know that grieves you.

Though I grew up in a country town, I'm sure this leaves you

Wondering how I can write such stuff.

Maybe an IQ of one eighty is explanation enough.

Or then again, all the practice I've had

At composing rejoinders to each jerk and cad

Who have underestimated my power of derision

And the cuts I could render with a verbal incision.

Or maybe it was all those books that I read,

While my peers were out drinking and screwing in bed.

It seems that having a neck of bright red

Is an acquired state from years that are led

With no effort to strive and build a great life,

Or to overcome the diceroll of a life full of strife.

There are lots of us Texans who came from afar

And our necks are not red, here under the Lone Star.

That is it for me as my brain has exploded

And all them poetic little facilitators in there

Have all scrambled theyselves and are

Lettin' off steam which is escapin' out my ears

Causin' my hair to curl up on either side

And so you win by stamina which I am all out of

So's I gotta stop here and not say no more

Congratulations Ima gonna lay down now

Need nap so bad so bad so...

Lawlessness:

The lawless agenda of,

those who always resist.

The wisdom of the ancients,

seems forever to persist.

Practice poor behavior,

and it will only grow.

Remember what you reap,

is what you did sow.

So don't come complaining,

when all seems but lost.

Forsaking the shelter of law,

ignoring the ultimate cost.

my thoughts are in orbit,

sattelites twitching with sparatic electric hum

never in the same place twice,

though often repeating themselves,

i drink moonshine on mars

and mistake meteors for stars

because i cant hold my liquer.

stumbling now upon these ancient pages,

scrolls fickle with age, wine

splattered upon some of the words,

WE CANNOT GET OUT OF OUR HEADS, CHILDREN

NO! THE WALLS ARE CLOSING IN

AND MY SUTCHERS TO REALITY ARE BEING

RIPPED LIMB

FROM

LIMB, BRUTALLY AND WITHOUT CARE.

Sick.

It makes me sick,

You and me,

The way we used to be,

I loved you so,

And I was blind to see

Exactly what you were doing to me,

You took for granted all that I lost,

Because for you there was no cost,

You consumed my life,

With the thought of that stupid knife,

Not knowing whether to laugh or cry,

How badly I wished to die,

To escape the pain,

To win the game,

And to finally leave you behind.

The first sweet seedless bite from the tip of a slice of watermellon

Cool and soft clover leaves between your bare toes

Floating in the pool with your boyancy in rythm with your breathing

The joyful run through a cold sprinker with no care for staying dry

The smell of freshly mowed lawn, and someone else pushing the mower

Bees in flowers doing what bees do... and ignoring you

Sitting outside with the neighbors on warm nights telling tall tales and singing old songs

Brushing the dog while bales of undercoat come loose and he growls with pure pleasure

Swinging in the hammock, staring at the wind blowing in the trees

Admiring a beautiful woman rising up a pool ladder and glistening in the sun

Watching the old tanned guy who swims with his hat on and never gets it wet

Throwing a kid as high as you can, and him them splash down into the pool

Taking an afternoon nap on the couch, and waking up in the middle of the night

Going to the opening of a big summer movie where people cheer and applaud

Sitting on the porch and watching a violent lightening storm

Playing catch in the yard with all the kids

Playing cards by candle light during a power outage

Grilled burgers, dogs, and potato salad galore

Missing a spot with the sunscreen and getting a weird shaped burn

Helping the kids set off fireworks

Holding hands and having not a care in the world

Laughing and talking with strangers who are enjoying the same things

Coffee for breakfast

Snickers for lunch

That’s how we do

When working through crunch

So stressed and so tired

Consistently wired

My work by my managers admired

Another deadline

Marked by my watch

I could use some more sleep

Or at least a nice scotch

To pillow my head

My body to bed

Wake up the next day

To repeat what I’ve just said.
