Kiwi bird

I wonder why a flightless bird would evolve?? Nature is amazing...

I'd venture to say that flightless birds [animals with feathers] existed before those that could fly. Kiwis are probably left over from the dinos who couldn't fly but developed feathers. Kiwis, ostriches, emus and the like didn't need to fly, so they flourished just the way they are...feathers and all.

Pretty cool little animal.

Also of note: their nostrils are at the ends of their beaks...just like dinosaurs...and unlike today's birds. :warped:

I like mongooses and i think they are cool.Although they are shy before humans they are confident about themselves in their domain.I watch several of them everyday in the bushes behind my home and monitor their activities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongoose will give more info on the cool and lovely mongoose...which can fight and kill king cobras. Many Indian movies have this favorite dual scene(like when the heroine/or hero's mother/a baby is caught between the villlians on one side and a king cobra on the other ,a mongoose suddenly appears and kils the cobra and gives way to the character on the run);)

3 toed sloth

I got up close and photographed with a rare daylight sloth moving across the park ground while in Venezuela. (I need to hook up my scanner)

Dude was moving SLOW! thats why their called sloths; But they're still cool! :)

They spend almost all day sleeping upside down; and they munch on leaves.

They can clock a cool 2 meters per minute. :) [zoom!]

They are unique in that they are a mammal that is unable to keep a constant body temperature, and therefore are found only in the tropics, from Honduras to Argentina.

Ever have those days you feel like a sloth?
