Last Stand at the Zombie Corral

Nelson Thompson, 2006

We live in a world of the living dead.

Haunted by their outstretched arms

And their blood stained scraggly teeth.

Stiff straight legs, they walk like slo-mo ducks.

Each a guided missile zombie aimed

At those who aren't zombies. Yet.

Who are these monsters? What makes them feast

On living flesh while theirs is pale and cold?

They are the ones who are infested

With maggots of the soul.

Worms of dogma, worms of faith,

Worms of holy creed and word,

Memetic worms that infest and spread

From mind to mind, overcoming knowledge,

Sanity and curiosity.

There's no life behind their eyes.

They believe devoutly what they're told

By other zombies who also bought what they were sold.

And on and on from corpse to corpse, the

Ignorance is spread without recourse to

Thinking, logic, facts or reason.

They can't abide the living,

Those whose eyes flash with the

Complexity of reality.

We are surrounded and outnumbered.

Listen to their brain-dead chants.

Kill for Allah! Kill for Jesus!

Kill for the polygods of Hindu!

Destroy the Constitution!

Our God will write the Laws!

Kill the scientists and the atheists!

Kill the smartass intellectuals!

I can hear them, they are closer.

We are running out of ammo,

Our bullets: our words and logic.

I am down to my last grenade,

A book of freshman physics.

But they don't read.

They don't think.

All knowledge to them

Is simplified

So they don't have to.

Simplified to just three words:

Believe and Obey!

Believe and Obey!

This is it.

Have courage.

They're here.

letters to Joy

1

You know,

I plopped down in a crater,

stirring moon-dust

as my energy body,

and I watched the earth in fast forward.

Spinning,

Pulsed green, Pulse blue.

a memory.

We were joined by Horses

i exhale quick, and extend a limb

and uncurl the fingers i will use to pet

the gracious ones before us.

Thru smoke my hand is so unlike yours-

Basically,

we were cut in half that night.

And by we I mean You

Me (of course, look at my hoofs!)

and the two horses

who trotted up to us like we knew they were going to ask one of us for

a cigarette.

When i allow my mind to wander.

which is much like a security guard asleep

after late night masturbation,

I start to write about how we became Centaurs-

2

I still have not familiarized myself with the fact of You.

You sit over there,

and when I realize what that means,

My mind,

THE MAGNET

Flies first,

then approaches with caution.

Oh,

but the caution is just a sign

over to the side of the road.

Bright, orange

but never there for long.

Dear walls of Jello,

let me borrow your metal bag on wheels

so I can take you to the check stand

Write on a check, too.

Dear Deli Clerks,

You make me excellent sandwiches behind glass, there.

All I have to do is be patient, They'll deliver

to my new home on this checkerboard lonoleum flooring

Only stepping on grays,

No whites today.

You can see with television hanging from the ceiling above the frozen Turkeys in lit-up bin.

Perceiving elmo

on a flat screen

SIR

So i look up

they hand me sandwhiches

and i eat them

they're so nice! i thank them every time.

they never make me pay.

Am i supposed to pay Up Front?

Dear concrete,

You littered all over the orchards.

Now i can't eat fruit.

So, since albertsons

is taking up a bunch of space

and there is food in there-

I'll just walk in there

and get food.

Life.

awakened i crawl from the pineal

my limbs quivering with questions

the walls are tripping on something

and they gyrate with timeless percision

as in the fourth dimension,

out of an infinate number of relms possible,

we percieve only four, for now.

my expression lives inside my hotel face

and the curtains are drawn,

the starless night seeps into swamp clouds

and them moon waxes and wains

whining to be seen.

my feet drag along tarp pavement

and stark vines claw at the chance to feel

until finilly i can rest,

awaiting the jupiter trans-mission

nothing works for these jerks

something quirks and smirks about it

round-a-bout

flounder out pout

creep an upside down crescent, oh

crescendo . . .

plateau for flat snow

chaining a ring slink dinky dink

dragged behind a diurnal

smelly carpet truck

holy ****.

****ing can't be holy?!!?

why the **** fling not your holiness?!??

well, this silliness is not my business

but isn't this? i mean,

it's only imaginary,

but you could have looked through

-ALL-

of them.

red fire trucks drive away bored-ish,

nothing to do-ish

but go to a school-ish

where some fool-ish

uses tool-ish

to make drool-ish

those who crave theatrics.

and of course that annoying,

fake ***** of heroism.

"The Thoughts"

by: Whatever alias I use on the web

These thoughts keep active as they reside

Be carefree and let them slide

Keep them consistent and they'll eat you inside

Meditate upon these thoughts, the ones inside

Understand that you must let them slide.

Evil always existed as it will turn and reside.

These thoughts give the vison of a deep red.

How does one remove these ideas from her head?

Laying down with her face in the pillow, wishing she was dead

Laying upon her death bed.

Regret stays consistent as doth thought

Continued to be fought as the mind rots.

The red head dead on her death bed.
