  3. I think gravity might have something to do with matter trying to remain in a homogenous realm of time. Particles fall in an effort to maintain spacial symmetry? One side of a particle's matter wave gets stretched while the other compresses, to sort of close the gap on the differences in time? The net effect is movement, falling. I think there is a kind of duality of the forces; the particle becomes gravitationally polarized, two regions, the faster and slower regions of time flow. What influences time to be slower or faster in a region of space I'm not exactly sure, perhaps just the energy density contained within an area. The more packed into an area perhaps the longer it takes for the universe to sort it out, so it appears like time is proceeding slower there. More stuff makes the time flow like molasses. Inertia is like a resistance to the future. Maybe that's where gravitons come into play, or energions or something. I have a hard time believing dimesional space itself can be warped. Or expanded. Or that space and time are intertwined as part of the same dimension matrix stuff, they seem like apples and oranges to me. Seconds and meters. Moment and place. It's hard to believe if you were to rotate 4th dimensionaly, that from your point of view, some of the seconds would become meters & vice versa. Is the past still there like a physical place you could go back and visit? Or is the past more like musical chairs, a constantly changing temporary state? I still would like to be a vacation time traveler. Sorry for going off on a tanget there. It's geting late. Anyway, that's my take on it..

  5. It's most likely a planet if it's that bright but didn't move. Some stars are variable in brightness. What part of the sky did you see it? Another possiblity could be a supernova, but those are really rare. We'd probably hear about it on the news if it was one of those. Could you pick out a color to it? There's a university near here that sometimes shines a bright green laser into the sky to create an artifical star to use for as a reference for an adaptive optics telescope, it effectively makes it like they're peering out into space without the atmosphere in the way. Could also be a weather balloon. If it was right after sunset the light could still be illuminating the balloon for a bit. Or a jet some distance towards the horizon.
  6. I was just going to take one of these puppies for a spin. I think I'll take it up to about 55000m, fly level with the scram jet on full throttle till the speed maxes out and then barrel up at a 45 to 50 degree ascent. At about 135000m I'll click on the rcs and level out with the horizon, then fire up the deurterium powered ion thrusters. Should accelerate pretty fast without any air in the way. Not sure where I'll go from there yet, maybe the ISS. Wish me luck. :) eta: Hmm the air is too thin above 40,000m for the scram jet to function. That was trippy. There must be a glitch. I was just about to Mach 8, the nose was glowing a light orange, and then it's like the ship hit a lighting bolt or some sort of spacial anomaly. The next thing I know I'm spinning out of control, way out 3,000,000m above the Earth, clocking about 2,500km/s right into deep space. I can see the planet visibly shinking and drifting away from me. I think that's Earth? Yikes.. How do I get back home?

  8. The universe stops about 53 gigaparsecs out. Nothing can traverse beyond the barrier without randomly tunneling into another epoch. My cat told me.

  10. You'll need to find a way to pipe sunlight down there too or the people will go crazy, mutate, and start sneaking around the surface at night, eating the inhabitants left above ground.

  12. With engines as powerful as that ship has maybe they just coast into the atmosphere at a relatively low speed. Sometimes I try to do that in Orbiter so the ship's nose just glows redish orange rather than the whole ship barreling in as a blazing white fireball. Thick silicone impregnated reusable ceramic ablator microweave fabric? They can probably buy it in bulk at local space ports. I'd imagine they'd have a duct tape version of the stuff too so they can slap it on wherever they need it. Also handy for deflecting micro meteriods, as well as for wrapping up space suits for edge-of-space emergency paracute decents.
  13. If the beam starts punching through into higher dimensions does that evaporation time equation still hold? Wouldn't further physical removal from the Higgs field that permeates our universe cause something like this to gain greater stability than it normally would, or would it make it pop out of existence faster? Wow, 4.787x10^-62 seconds. Can time be divided into intervals that small? You'd almost think the universe would quantum jump past a moment that small and the process could never even happen just like an electron can't fall all the way into the nucleus of an atom.
  14. It's pretty cool looking. I was listening on the shortwave radio as they were firing this puppy up doing their countdown. At T-0 my radio picked up this weird hum across 3 entire bands. That wouldn't have been them would it? I'm figuring it was probably my neighbor turning their TV on to watch a late night show. I hope it leads them to a theory where they can make artificial gravity engines. I have the navigation system programmed, and I'm working on the structural design (it's an ever evolving thing), but my ship needs working engines. About the micro black hole thing. I was reading about an experiment the RHIC did in 2005 that created a fireball, possibly there were MBHs made and then evaporating in about 10^-23 seconds. I don't think these things even had a singularity, they just kind of behaved similiarly, scrunching the ion beam through a few extra dimensions or a kink in space-time or something? I think it's like if you could take a spoon and get a taste of what the area near a black hole is like but you're not actually dealing with a real one? Just kind of sniffing the spices. Do you think they could pick up a radio station from a parallel universe? I'd feel a little safer if I knew the two beam speeds were slightly different such that any resulting particles would zip off faster than Earth's escape velocity. Would that mess up the detectors? Like one at 0.99994c and the other .99999c? I don't think they're going to let me fiddle with the controls though..
  15. So a day spent on the bottom of the ocean is slightly less than a day spent on the top of Mt. Everest right? And if you were to look back at the Earth from an intergalactic void with a giant telescope everyone would be walking around in slow motion with a slightly redish tint? Are the atoms in a clock at the bottom of the ocean squashed more like a pancake, so a pendulum would have to travel further in it's swing? This is interesting stuff.

  17. I wonder if it's the emf higher frequency harmonics from the compact florescent interfering with the bees internal communication network/gps system? It's puzzling. He should try different types of bulbs and blocking the visible light from the bulb to see if it affects their behavior. If it is an emf thing I wonder if lining beehives with a metal mesh would help limit their exposure. I've spotted a few bees waiting to get inside my greenhouse and a few hanging around the apple tree blossoms. They're just starting up so I'm not sure yet how the bees are fairing this year. They looked healthy and up to their normal routine.
  18. I've never reproduced. Peer pressure and nagging parents who want more grandchildren? I'd imagine all the early organisms that liked to be bachelors died off and it's just the mutants who could reproduce that did so. I guess that's why sex is such a big thing now. I don't think the genes have a will of their own. They just do their thing like good little programmed nanobots. I don't think genes feel joy when their host organism finds a snack or gets lucky. The organism as a whole though, it's in every creature's instinct to do it now.

  21. I made a greenhouse using transparent duct tape. It's handy stuff. It sticks well to pvc pipes and it doesn't degrade in the sunlight. Because it's transparent? I'm not sure what makes it stick but I love that stuff. I was reading somewhere that duct tape doesn't work in space, either the adhesive freezes or something about being in a vacuum. You'd think it would be the temperature. I'm not sure though. I don't get into space much.
  22. This reminds me of a couple sci-fi novels. Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Charles Sheffield. And these two by Dennis Danvers, Circuit of Heaven and End of Days. I thought they were all pretty good. The distinction between artificial intelligence and what's human becomes blurred and sometimes interchangable. I think we're going to reach other solar systems. I wouldn't mind being a part of that. A breakthrough could happen any day now. If I had a cute willing girlfriend and a hyperdrive I'd be out there in a couple weeks. I'll probably retire out there somewhere on a quiet forest planet on the edge of the Small Magellanic Cloud, really great view of the galaxy from there. If not there then somewhere overlooking that sparkly blue Pleiades cluster. I kinda had my hopes up that there'd be something interesting at Alpha Centari but I think we'll have to go out a couple dozen more light years. It's still worth a look though, eh?
  23. Make a 3D scalar field eps1(x,y,z) by combining the system of equations. Then find the minimum points inside the field. I tried a guassian traversal method. Pick random points and fall towards the local minimums. x,y,z looks like table salt with the nodes at multiples of pi. I don't think there's anything hidden in between the nodes other than fuzzy near solutions.
