You may be able to glean some information about a person by their religious preference, but not much really. The point that most seem to miss is that, regardless of religious choice, everyone is an individual with different life experiences, genetic predispositions, and more appropriate to this thread, with different interpretations.

 

The people voting based on qualities such as religious preference tend to do so because they think "that person's like me." It completely overrides the realization that everyone is different, and that generalizations are very often wrong.

 

It's also a question of priority. What is important to one will not be important to another. These are the issues on which we vote. Do you want to secure a healthier environment and a cooperative global community or do you want to ban gay marriage and make it illegal to burn flags?

 

For those too busy worrying about putting dinner on the table to explore the complexities of each candidate, they're going to vote for the one who had a soundbite which sounded most like what they wanted to hear.
