Pornography

What do You think?

Is it a problem?

Is it out of control?

What is your Analysis?

#1 - I think that pornography is a business, just like any other. It takes something that people want and sells it to them.

#2 - It only becomes a problem when people become addicted to it - internet pornography is much more dangerous in this regard (I'll try to find my sources later).

#3 - Pornography seems to be a very capitalist system, in which it self-regulates based on the market. Thus, it can only be out of control to the degree that the market is out of control. What is impressive is that it would seem like the market is completely glutted, and yet it is still growing. The demand must be much higher than one would think.

#4 - I think that it is like alcohol - mostly harmless. The vast majority of users will be reasonable about it, but you occasionally get people who become addicted, and need their fix just to feel normal.

Good Opinions pgrmdave.

However, my premise is to find credible statistics

I can only look at so many Porn Sites ;)

Stats are what this thread is about.

I said that there are some major problems with Underage viewers. My nephew being exposed is one more number. (while he was at the babysitters; he's age 10) Wasn't the babysitters fault. he and a friend got online and it was all too easy!

Statistics. Thats what we're after. And I think Celeste did a great job in her earlier post...:)

More Numbers....

Because not all sources are going to be the same. You can then average those numbers out to have a "relative actuality" or a number closer to what is really going on...hopefully

Thank you again for all your input guys! :)

This is important research...

I don't consider porn to be a major social problem.

Porn isn't about sex so much as it is about fantasy, and fantasy is always about power. Rebiu said that sex is part of the human condition, and I agree - and I would say that this is the reason there are a limited number of 'classes' of fantasy - the sex fantasy, the violence fantasy, and the wealth fantasy. All of them are fundamentally about having the power to make things happen TO somebody else, instead of having thing happen TO you.

I don't want to go into too much detail about porn, and how a good many of it's institutions are less about sex and more about "look what I can make her do." But it isn't nessecarily that these views are abnormal, but the WAY that porn is viewed gives them a legitimacy they don't deserve. Porn is not viewed as a TV show, or as a video game, it's viewed almost like a documentary, especially by people for whom it is the only exposure to sex.

But, the PROBLEM here is not that porn is a violent sex fantasy, it's that porn is a violent sex fantasy that bills itself as "how things really are."

And as everyone who isn't a virgin is aware - things are NOTHING like a porno movie.

For the record, pornography is NOT for adolescents. At least, not in it's current incarnation. There is too much "fakery" of reality there. (Most) Kids don't have a problem distinguishing between television and videogames as reality because they don't TRY to be reality. Porn is different. Even some ADULTS have trouble distinguishing between the way real people have sex and the way they have sex in pornos. (I dated one. Not pleasant.)

Anyway, that's my two cents. Pornography is violent sex fantasy, which is not prima facie a bad thing. But its "selling" itself as reality, rather than fantasy makes it potentially destructive.

So to "solve the porn problem" in as much as one exists, the solution is to not react like it's anything other than a dirty cartoon, for pornography to quit billing itself as "the way it oughta be" and to educate curious adolescents about what sex is really like, so they don't get the idea that porn is anything other than what it is - an unlivable fantasy.

Why? you looking to do some personal research for my masturbation thread?

Ah... golly. Got me there, didn't ya? Owww... burn. Yeah.

Ultimately, the motivation for my request was a personal belief that you're being disingenuous and inauthentically representing your past. Judging from your reply, this belief was not mistaken.

This is why I seldom mention my past as a sex worker. It usually starts with hostility thinly veiled as skepticism and progressive to a jealous rage.

I participated in 6 photo shoots in Long Beach California in 1995. The company name on my checks was HBS productions. The work I did was for still shots and they told me it was for a Hardcore German magazine.

How could this information validate of invalidate my claim as you have no idea of my identity or appearance?
