SR was a standalone theory, GR came 10 years later. So please try to remember that SR and its perfect math DOES apply (according to Einstein, and H&F) because they used SR math equations as they were, to calculate what they should see in their data. But the Theory of General relativity is at odds with SR, because GR assumes and requires an absolute space, for Spacetime to work, as well as an Aether of some sort.
