Strange and off topic discussion from gay marriage thread

Recommended Posts

Here is a unique way to look at gay marriage. Gay marriage represents a departure from the naturalist philosophy and a movement toward an institution of religion. Even if science can show apes and various critters doing each other in all promiscuous combinations, the gays are trying to get away from this, and are trying to head toward a standard that was set by the world religions long ago. The gays are not happy with just an atheist civil union based on laws, but they what to go one step further and include a connection to a religious tradition.

This creates a paradox for science. If gay is trying to merge with a religious institution, and science supports this merger, science is saying this is progressive for gays, relative to the animal ways of the naturalists. The gays have outgrown the old science way and have mature for something higher.

Religion is sort of resisting the merger, because they feel science made the gays in their own image, but correlating them with animals, which are lower than humans. Gays are shunning the animal science in favor of religion. They see a better way. If the religious institution of marriage was seen by science as regressive, relative to ape behavior, they would speak out and try to stir the gays away. But Science must see the progression in this institution.

The atheist should be upset that the gays are moving toward this religious tradition of marriage, since anything from religion is irrational to them. But they are so involved in the battle they are forgetting about the overall religious war against religion. They can't see they are defining the religious position of marriage as the higher goal. In the longer term, once married, the gays can't be fully atheist, if they freely chose a religious tradition over atheist naturalism.

So, are you saying science and homosexuality go together because both try to avoid 'the other' and are self-obsessed? By this I mean atheism/ scientism is avoiding spirituality or the inspiration (desire) that comes from interaction with the unknown, the different, the uncertain as opposed to narcissism (self-love). It is going beyond the safe, to explore the mysterious. Interesting viewpoint but obviously not popular, even with me!:hihi:
