Valerian

I found this info on how to make valerian tea:

Prepare valerian tea in the morning by adding 2 tsp. of valerian root to 2 cups of warm water. Let stand until the evening. Strain and warm. Add 1 tsp. of honey and drink 1 cup after dinner and 1 cup before going to bed.

I've read a number of times to not use boiling water because the valerian will lose some of it's properties.

You can make a tincture and then add about 20 drops to warm water and drink. Here's how to make a non-alcoholic tincture if you prefer:

Non-Alcoholic Tincture

Make an alcoholic tincture.

Evaporate the alcohol.

Put twenty drops of the tincture in a cup of water.

Add one-fourth of a teaspoon of boiling water.

orbsycli

I have a bag of finely chopped valerian.

I've taken valerian capsules in the past to aid dream recall.

How should I ingest this powderesque plant material?

Are there any traditional methods?

I googled first. no avail.[/Quote]

this is a new one to me but I'm still looking for you. :phones:

Capsules are rubbish-

throw them into the compost.

Make a tea from freshish Valerian root -about a teaspoon or two to a cup.

You know it is fresh because is smells like fresh vomit

You may like to add some peppermint to disguise the smell -the TASTE is OK

Valerian just carms you & helps you sleep. It is a very safe herb to use.

To my knowledge only some forms of mugwort induce dreaming.(See Jeanne Rose's "Herbs and Things")

(High doses of B vitamin are said to give you color dreams -not black and white)
