She was the first sheep made with a remarkable talent: each litre of her milk contains about 35 grams of the protein human alpha-1-antitrypsin, a potential treatmet for cystic fybrosis. Although all she needs to make it is grass, every litre is worth several thousands of pounds. Like many biological molecules, alpha-1-antispyrin is too complex to be synthesised in labarotories, but has been inserted into her DNA when she was an embryo.
