Vmedvil Posted Sunday at 10:41 PM Report Posted Sunday at 10:41 PM It seems MIT physicists have discovered a superconductor that doubles as a magnet, read more at MIT Physicists Discover Superconductor that Doubles As a Magnet What are some applications you can think of for this superconductor that doubles as a magnet? OceanBreeze Posted Monday at 11:49 AM Report Posted Monday at 11:49 AM I was under the impression that all superconductors generated strong magnetic fields. As far as applications for this new superconductor, I doubt if there will be any applications possible. Reason for that is the MIT physicists are fiddling around with graphene, which has a two-dimensional structure ( sheets only one atom thick ) So far the physicists have had no success in forming graphene into a stable 3 dimensional shape. ( as far as I can determine ) There doesn't seem to be many applications for 2 D shapes. Quote
