Jim Colyer
There must be life in other places. Are there not 100 billion galaxies in the Universe at last estimate?
Tormod
There must be life in other places. Are there not 100 billion galaxies in the Universe at last estimate? While it *sounds* statistically sound, it isn't - we have absolutely no way to know whether we are freaks of nature or if life is commonplace all over the universe. infamous
I'll go with Murphy's Law, 'If it can happen, it will'. It happened here on earth sooooooooooooooooooooooo, does that give you a hint how I feel about the question????????????????
lindagarrette
Whether there are life out there or not, only depends on how you tune the variables in the Drake equation. I agree completely. The Drake equation is mostly for people to have fun with. It's mainly a framework for showing what was required for life to develop on this planet. Everytime I play with it I come up with a different result depending on my attitude at the time.
Stargazer
Apparently, what we call life is possible. It arose on this planet and it is unlikely that it is the only planet where this could happen. The elements have the same properties everywhere, and with the right conditions, life can emerge. True, but how? There has been bacteria and water found on Mars.

Edge
I don't think it was ever confirmed that life was found on Mars? Well, life as we define it, No. Just some bacteria... and that's what I have read.

I guess you're talking about the ALH84001 meteorite?
