Hi,

I'm new here. I enjoy indepth discussion of scientific things, particularily gravity and relativity. I am 64 and have had mechanical, electrical and nuclear engineering, specialized in Process Control Instrumentation Systems. I'm an ex-nuclear reactor operator and an inventor with several patents.

I owned and operated my own research corporation for many years but am now semi-retired and my wife and I manage a 32.5 acre retirement community.

Hi,

.... I'm an ex-nuclear reactor operator...

Aren't you allowed to work in Nuclear Reactors for only three years at a time? And isn't because of the constant bombardment of nuclear radiation that will start to get through even the most protective suits after a while ;)?

I'm afraid that is an old wives tale. Working "Operations" one gets less (normally) radiation than a day at the beach. However, there are certain jobs or tasks that are restricted such as cleanup from an incident or what they generically call "Steam Generator Jumpers".

These are specialists that go inside and clean radioactive systems. They are indeed restricted to a few days a month. The amount of time ofcourse depends on the radiation level and the type of radiation.
