Quantum Quack, from my understanding, you are essentially right.

 

But for one thing which confused me.

 

An observer will NEVER see anybody elses frame be faster than his. It is always slower.

 

2 observers A and B moving apart at relativistic speeds. A sees Bs frame slower than his. B sees As frame slower than his. This is called relativity. The laws of physics relative to A are the same as those relative to B.

 

So if you think you are pretty slow thinking, just talk to somebody moving away or towards you at relativistic speed (okay, strictly speaking such a conversation will never happen because the speed of light is faster than the speed of sound).

 

And lorenz contraction only occurs in the dimension parallel to the direction of motion.
