Plato and Aristotle Controversy!

In our March quiz of the month, we ask whether Aristotle actually studied under Plato, or whether he just attended Plato's university.

An observant reader says:

"Dear Sir

I took part in your last quiz (a very interesting and tough one) unfortunately I want to point out a possible mistake. In your quiz it is considered correct that Aristotle was a student at Plato's Academy whilst I have always known that Aristotle was,in fact,a student of Plato;he left the academy at Plato's death.I checked more references and they seemed to have the same position:see for example

<U>http://www.utm.edu/research/iep/a/aristotl.htm#Life</U>.

I witness that firstly I obtained only 11 out of 12 exact results but it was totally unclear to me why, only by pure chance at my third attempt I obtained 12 out of 12.

Anyway your site is excellent,I check it every day!

Thank you very much.

With respect

Cristian Lucescu"

Now, the source we have used to create the quiz is this page:

http://www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Aristotle.html

So - is Christian right? We found another page which supported his view at

http://www-home.cc.duq.edu/~lampe/GenBio/Lec2/ppframe.htm

This may turn out a bit embarrassing...can anyone please confirm our worst suspicions and prove Christian correct?

What I found incredibly impressive is that panda bothered to respond to a 2 year old post that had no other responses.

WELCOME, panda!! Love watching you dance. Enjoy your posts so far. Looking forward to learning more about you through your posts.

Oh, and just so you know... i LOVE the walrus!! How cute is that?
