G'day :)

Hi everyone,

I'm 26 years old and I'm here to learn. Literally.

I used to be a christian fundamentalist extremist. I lost my faith five months ago, and I am now an atheist... Who doesn't know the first thing about science.

I believed that the earth was 6000 years old. I believed in the flood. Hell, I even believed that men had one less rib than women. I believed that god had made the earth rotate backwards, I believed in the resurrection... I believed all of it.

As a consequence, I went through school and paid no attention in science and geography. Tectonic plate shift? Pfft. Didn't they know about the Tower of Babel? Evolution? Puh-lease. Science was wrong, the bible was right. Big-bang Theory? Ha!

...Sigh.

I've spent the last couple of months trying to get my head around evolution. I have watched Richard Dawkins' The Blind Watchmaker, almost finished his book, The God Delusion, and I found the Nova documentary on the Dover trial, Judgement Day: Intelligent Design on Trial to be particularly helpful. But it's hard. I jave to start completely from scratch, and I need a hand to understand a lot of stuff.

Since yesterday I've been trying to get my head around the concept of falsifiability in reference to a scientific theory. I'm also trying to work out stuff beyond our atmosphere. Basically, I need a hand. I'm probably going to ask some really dumb questions. I hope you all don't mind too much. I'm probably going to sound dense at times and say some stupid things. I hope that you all can tolerate my ignorance. Basically, most primary school children know more about science than I do. Pretty embarrassing.

To wrap up this long-winded post, I'll tell you a bit about myself. I'm female, and I live on the coast in Australia with my fiancee and two black cats (Wednesday and Bruce). I'm currently on a break from a degree in Community Development as I'm booked in for an operation at the end of May. I dig heavy metal, and long-term I'd like to work as a mental health advocate.

So that's my g'day :)

G'day belovelife!

Yeah I just had some Metallica cranking while I did some housework. Someone once tried to tell me that I listen to heavy metal because I'm depressed. I laughed. Heavy metal has always made me feel happy :)

I respect metal, but get a bit irritated by it - I think because, despite working at it, I've never been able to do a decent metal voice. :( It's hard, and you can hurt yourself trying!

Oh, yeah, welcome to hypography, Pudd! :)
