Killing Bacteria, etc.

Mercedes Benzene

When silver is placed in solution, it has been proven that hundreds of forms of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms are killed.

The ancient romans used to place silver coins in drinking wells for luck. Little did they know that they were actually disinfecting their water!

For all you microbiologists:

What is it about the silver ions that kill these organisms?
