someguy
Why are some words "naughty"? While others are OK? Why can any word give rise to anger, disgust? Who deems these words to be "Naughty"?
InfiniteNow
It is based on context and societal norms, but some words clearly are more biting and have very intense tones. For example:Helpful vs. GivingGreen vs. NeonFrustration vs. AngerIntercourse vs. HumpingHungry vs. StarvingSickly vs. Dying... They each mean something different... like the Eskimos have 20-30 different names for snow, each has a specific application. In a social context, and with the need to respect those around us, the more "biting" and harsher terms tend to be offensive. George Carlin had a good treatise on this in one of his specials, and frequently asks some similar questions. For example, his Seven Dirty Words routine. Here's an NPR exerpt on this: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4136881
