They seem destined to become the standard not the exception for cars, aircraft, and multiple other things needing power. There is a DEKA battery factory about 25 miles from my home. I know some of the employees who work there. According to them it's a very dangerous and toxic place. There is recycling, but I think when it comes to batteries this process is limited.
