Hi

This is zainab Ali. I want an ideas on this project..............................................

PURPOSE: To design, build, and test a vehicle that will carry a single student around a flat track.

DESCRIPTION:

Vehicle specifications:

The vehicle shall be no larger than 4.0 feet long by 3 feet wide. During operation, parts of the vehicle may travel outside this envelope. However, at the starting line, with the driver in place, the vehicle may not exceed these dimensions.

The vehicle must be powered by only the one person in the vehicle (referred to as the driver).

A straight line, linear pumping motion AND elastic must create the energy and motion of the vehicle. There can be no stored energy and no energy storage devices (like a fly wheel) are allowed. The motion must come from both the pumping and elastic. In other words, if one were not present, the vehicle would not move. The elastic must be an integral part of the power train.

Springs may NOT be used.

No push starts are allowed. Vehicle must be stopped at the start line.

Once started, the driver may not leave the vehicle.

The driver must be positioned no more than 18 inches off the ground.

Vehicle must be designed and built by the team.

Track:

The track will be a figure eight approximately 100 feet long. The track will be set up by placing two buckets 100 feet apart. The vehicle must then move in a figure eight around these two buckets.

Only one team will race on the track at a time.

The track will be on pavement or concrete.

The track will be at HVCC (probably in the ice rink, but possibly in an HVCC parking lot).

The Race:

The vehicle will be placed at the starting line with the driver in position.

Each vehicle will race three times.

Each of these three races will be timed.

Each race will consist of once around the track.

No practice runs will be allowed.

A different driver must be used for each race. The driver must be a member of the team.

The team must be ready to race when called and, once at the starting line, vehicle driver and set up must be completed with 3 minutes.

The total race time for all three races, will be calculated by adding the three race times together. The team with the lowest score is the winner. Fastest time in a single race will be a secondary winner.

If there is a break down during a race, members of the team may attempt to fix the vehicle and try to finish the race. However, the driver may not leave the vehicle. The clock will remain running during this time. No more than 5 minutes will be allowed for breakdown repair during a race.

Safety:

Drivers of the vehicle must wear a helmet, safety glasses, elbow pads, and gloves. Additionally, each driver must wear a shirt and shoes and can not wear shorts or sandals.

All other team members must wear safety glasses when working on or around the vehicle. Additionally, all other team members must wear shirts and shoes and can not wear shorts or sandals.

The design of the vehicle must be safe. All pinch points must be enclosed and the driver must be protected from the elastic if it snaps during operation.

Hi there, and welcome to Hypo.

How about a motorized sofa?

I saw one once on a clip on some sort of crazy car show where the sofa was attached to a coffee table (the front suspension's disguise) and the steering wheel was actually a pizza lying in an open pizza box on the coffee table. Pretty cool. But prolly won't satisfy your sciency requirements.
