  1. There's the old joke about the new CEO who wanted to find out how smart his VPs were, so he asked his sales guy what 2+2 was and he said, 22, at least, and probably more, depending on my commission plan, So he asked the engineering guy, and was told, It's 4, +- 0.00006, but it'll take 6 months and $500,000 to find out for sure.So he asked the financial guy, who said, it's however much you want it to be, and by the way, it's tax-deductable. (Note: I used to work in finance.)
  2. Welcome to the forum. I too have a degree in Mathematics and opted out of continuing, preferring a career in accountancy and financial management. I wonder if that would suit you?
  3. Welcome to the forum.
  4. Well, the energy would spread out so if the distance from the sun doubles the energy intensity is only a quarter. The same reason a candle illuminates the immediate area more brightly than further away. The energy is not lost, it just spreads out.

(Learn how and when to remove these template messages) A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. (November 2012) This article needs attention from an expert on the subject. (November 2012) This article relies too much on references to primary sources. 6. That comes with a health warning.....
  7. That's possible. The oceans would freeze over but some bacteria could exist in the liquid water at the bottom. Without the pull of the sun's mass the planet would fly off into deep space, and who knows where it would end up? Probably frozen deep in interstellar space or trapped by a black hole and eaten whole...... No plants at all, I'm afraid, except for that advanced race.
  8. Good question. I suppose rain drops are spheres and the sun shines downwards so the reflected and refracted light would be in a curve, shaped downwards too. I think. Maybe.
  9. Not unless an advanced race could colonise it and provide fusion power etc.
  10. Not happy with the answers on the other forum?
  11. I think neutrinos do have mass, but not much. They are one of the candidates for dark matter, in fact.
  12. We evolved to be.....
  13. Just make it thicker, it will last longer.
  14. It's either god or an intelligent designer, obviously..
  15. Most tax authorities will limit the extent to which book depreciation costs are allowable.

  17. Interesting link: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2016/jun/08/supermassive-black-hole-eating-gas-clouds-astronomy-chile Extract: Astronomers in Chile have caught the first-ever glimpse of a “supermassive” black hole preparing to gorge itself on gas clouds about a billion light years from Earth. Using the ALMA telescope in the Atacama desert, the international team spotted three clouds streaming towards a black hole at speeds of up to 800,000 miles (1.3m km) per hour. Composed mainly of carbon monoxide, the clouds were “only” 300 light years from the huge hole, “essentially teetering on the edge of being devoured, in astronomical terms,” the European Southern Observatory said in a statement on Wednesday. The microwave-spectrum observation provides the first direct evidence for the theory that black holes feed on clouds of gas. 18. Interesting link.
  19. That says Page Missing.
  20. I wonder if there is a subtle way in which the season you are born does affect you. A mother's health probably affects the unborn foetus, and her health in turn would be affected by the seasons. Carrying the child during the winter when people are often sick with flu/colds/other illness would affect the development of the child.
  21. Blood is diverted from your brain to your stomach to help digest the food.

  23. They were definately not named Adam and Eve though. They were probably named Big-Grunt and Little-Grunt, and never went near any apple trees with snakes in them.
