  1. It's hard to feel sorry for Bush, too, and HE has plenty of blood on HIS hands. Take that to its logical conclusion.
  2. YES. Because I'm not STUPID, that's why.
  3. But more people means less land available for growing. AND - the supposition that a perfect distribution, with no surpluses, etc isn't even laughably achievable. These are human beings you're talking about. Greed. Power. Avarice. How about just plain old malignant psychopathy? We're not going to change. If we don't have the maturity to procreate with ration and logic (much less how we consume the Earth's resources), then what hope do we have as a species to act in the best interest of all? We can't even convince people of the future we face, and you expect people to change our very nature? Science is supposed to be about truth. That scenario isn't, and could never be true. We need to face the facts that we're *not* going to stop global warming, we'll get our chance to say "I told you so" to the morons that refuse to believe, and we'll have to learn to live with the world we created. We survive those changes by adaptation - or we don't. Like I've said before - we can't trust the morons out there to make the right decisions. Why should we let them decide then? Why should we tolerate their stupidity? Educate the ones we can - isolate the ones we can't from decision making positions.
  4. Oh, but it IS. Because the alternative is to let THEM have the power to quash science. If the Inqusition, the Dark Ages, The Salem Witch Trials, Morons Against Stem Cells, or any other example of idiots using delusional superstitions to enforce stupidity upon the world aren't enough to convince you, what would? Playing nice and acting namby-pamby with these idiots will get you burned at a stake. I don't have to tolerate people who believe 2+2=5. They can think it - but I do NOT have to tolerate them, or allow them to make laws or policy that will affect my life or our survival.
  5. A science forum? Sorry, you got me hooked, now.
  6. I'm one of those horrible homosexual atheists your mother warned you about. I believe in science, and in truth. I revere science as others do religion - but at least MY faith can be proven. I live in San Francisco, have a medical background, but now work as a DBA. I stumbled across this site by searching for "overpopulation" and "homosexuality". I was hoping to find reference to a study done in the 70's with controlled/variable populations of rats and the change in the frequency of homosexuality with population changes. I found a very interesting discussion here about that topic, but sadly - couldn't find actual concrete evidence of the study. Now that I've found y'all, though - I'll be back.
  7. I've also read the study (and ALSO can't find mention of it now) about rats in a controlled area with varying populations and the correlative variance of homosexuality. I keep hearing people talking about genes as though they're a light switch. Either ON or OFF. That's not how ALL genes work. Some genes can be affected by "coactivation" (A coactivator is a protein that increases gene expression by binding to an activator) I've read (but now can't find, darn-it-all) that it's the MOTHER that determines the sexuality. That stressors during pregnancy affect levels of a type of testosterone that would then "turn on" the expression of homosexuality. If the mother has the gene for this AND she is under stress during the exact part of her pregnancy for this to have an effect, then the child will be gay. Thus, not ALL children from her will be gay, and even in the case of identical twins, it might not be enough of an effect for both to be affected. Population control is the only logical explanation thus far put forth for the existence of homosexuality. It's obviously a survival trait that Mother Nature has so thoughtfully provided. It's really too sad that we'd rather use superstition and religious delusion to explain the real world than to open our minds (and our hearts) and realize that homosexuality is a NATURAL part of life on Earth. No one chooses to be gay. No one chooses to be straight. It just IS, and for the betterment of all mankind! (especially in this day and age when most of our problems like pollution, wars, famine, global warming, etc are caused by overpopulation)
  8. It's me - Tynk from SF.
