  1. I know the reason Why We use the identities but It bothers me that I don't know where they originate from. Its for solving Integrals like; ∫ ((4-x^2)^(1/2))/x The integral is from 1 to 2
  2. OK, in my calc class today we are doing trig substitution integrals . I was kinda wondering how the book gets these identities, because they show no proof and it really bothers me. cos^2(x) = (1/2)(1+cos(2x)) sin^2(x) = (1/2)(1-cos(2x)) As in cos(x)cos(x), or sin(x)sin(x) could someone help me in proving these identities
  3. nevermind i guess it kinda fits in with mathmatics and physics.:) sorry
  4. I was just randomly wondering if we could start up a calculus forum. I mean it probably would have to take a lot of support, but lets face it, calc is fun.
  5. it seems like it may be possible though if we could redirect the energy. Just a thought. I don't know how I would do it, but it'sjust a thought.
  6. I'm really just fascinated with the ebola virus. The idea that something so small can do such damage. :)
  7. its worth a try. I mean if you can get something that looks like diamonds out of peanut butter then lets start the maSS production.
  8. I don't believe that perpetual motion is possible, but reading some of these posts reminded me of anither topic. Infinite. WE may not be able to ever reach perpetual motion but as in calculus there are some limits involving infinite that approach zero but never actually reach it. Kind of like half lives. So when we finally reach that level technologically we will be able to simulate artificial perpetual motion. If that makes any sense....????
  9. My avatar is a single specimin of the ebola virus
  10. My personal view on the universe is that it is curved. There is an angle to the universe that causes it to loop around. This means that we may be looking at ourselves but not know it. Causing us to believe that we are discovering new space. This is kind of a crack head view but I hope it kinda helps maybe.
  11. I going to do it. I mean whats the worst that can happen. Possibly my house can burn down, or if im lucky a whole city blockwould catch ablaze. But its worth it.:Alien:
  12. I actually almost agree with dave. .33333.......... does not equal (1/3). But theoretically as the limit approaches infinite it will equal (1/3). Its our human minds that can not comprehend the idea of a repeating decimal, or a number that is always approaching another number as a limit. Infinite is used to solve that problem.
  13. Scientific American Would be my number one recommendation. I have a subscription and I wouldnt give it up for the world. Well maybe the world
  14. I'm not quite sure but I believe that I have read somewhere that the memory capacity has something to have to do with the impulses and synapses. But I am not sure and Its purely from memory. :Alien:
  15. One of the theories in sociology involve the development of the human mind with respect to cognition and the way that we perceive the world. Piaget established four stages of cognitive development Sensory Motor Stage (Birth-2) - Development using only senses and muscle movement Preoperational Stage (2-7) - Language development, You begin learning with symbols, and do not yet understand conservation of mass. Concrete Operations (7-11) - Logical and now capable of concrete thinking, understand conservation. Formal Operations (11-Adult) - Capable of abstract thinking. Obviously this does not follow the the thinking development of all people, but for the lesser of our population I believe it makes perfect of sense.
