I am insulted.

what is to be gained by not debating the subject?

in your equation do the zeroes represent nothing, and if so, is nothingness ever a possibility?

what happens when the unstoppable force meets the unmovable object?

john lennon was a very angry man.

I'll revise my original statement. When I say trash I don't mean things like plastic bottles and other non biodegradable things you might find in a land fill, i'm mainly talking about things like compost. I myself do not believe that there is any life on mars and i think the only way it would get there is if humans put it there.
-
i thought this thread was about coming up with ideas to terraform mars. this is an idea to generate life on a lifeless planet. not an idea to shoot all of our trash onto mars.
-
So, if it works, then it works. If it doesn't, its no real loss. I fail to see an argument against this idea.
-
exactly, and if it turns out there is no life activity on mars the mixture of trash and dead animal is likely to stir something up.
-
i say we launch some sort of dead animal and a bunch of trash onto the surface of mars and see what happens.

i just bought the new "and you will know us by the trail of dead" album, and it is amazing. these guys are the smartest musicians in rock right now, and they seem to make music for everyone to like. http://www.trailofdead.com check it out. don't let the name scare you off, they're not death metal or anything.

that would be excellent, talking about music and musical instruments are some of my favorite past times.

my guitar rig: i play on 1972 fender telecaster deluxe reissue. (this is the model with the fat strat neck and humbuckers) i also have a fender accoustic resonator. it generates a beautiful tone that is very unique to this type of guitar. i have two basses, one is a 52' fender p-bass (vintage) and the other is a fender jazz bass. i know, i'm a fender man, i just love the way they look and play. i play everything through an older model ampeg bass combo amp. its a tube state combo, which i'm not sure but i don't think is very common for a bass amps. this is what probably adds the best tone when i'm playing guitar through it. i also have tons of pedals. my favorites are my big muff pie distortion pedal and my boss digital delay. i am considering saving up my money again and purchasing a vox amp with built in digital effects. i have been playing guitar for about 7 years now.

does anybody else make music and record it? http://www.purevolume.com/funn this is a place where i put up songs i record for people to listen. i'm not very good with acid pro 4.0 (the recording program i use) yet, but if anybody has basic questions or further knowledge in this field i would love to share ideas and techniques.

thats only one reason. it still doesn't answer what it is that drives the person to make art exclusively for themself.
-
that just shows it is not for someone else. it doesn't mean that there is no intention.but do you see how a bird decorates its nest for a biological purpose (the intent to breed)? that ranks near the top of every specie's hierarchy of needs. while when a human creates art that only he will ever see, he has his own motivations. there is this other thought process going on.
-
this train of thought would also suggest that older animals living on earth could be smarter or more developed than humans. but that has not proven to be the case. there is a possibility of intelligent life on other planets. i do not rule that out. but if you could consider that there is intelligent life on other planets, would you still rule out the possibility that there isn't?
-
yes, beauty was the wrong word to use. what i should have said is that humans are the only species that create art for the sole purpose of the art itself. when a bird creates its decoration it does so in an attempt to achieve something. while a human could draw an endless amount of pictures in a note book with the intent of no one else ever seeing them.

what i mean by this is usually when people tend to think of aliens they think of creatures that are far advanced beyond us, or a species that has been around longer. you know, its just kind of turned into this universal portrayal that we have of life off of this planet.
-
thank you. i'm so glad i founf this forum.
-
they do that in order to get a mate. there is a big difference between doing that to further your species. and creating something attractive for the only reason that you wanted to make something beautiful.
-
i don't undeerstand what you're trying to get at with this question.
-
i say intelligence is when you think beyond necessities or creature comforts. the arts for example, not only are we the only species that can enjoy art, we are also the only species that can make it. but what if we are the first species in the universe to have this kind of thought? why is there this now almost given assumption that other planets developed intelligent life faster than us? and i think about higher levels on consciousness. what if all life has a certain energy to it. say that is what we really are, our own specific energy signiture that is relocated when these bodies expire. we keep starting over and over again, having our energy recycled through human bodies until we reach a point where we learn how not to come back.

THE PATTERN OF LIFE I have been thinking about this a lot lately; about things like god, aliens, the afterlife, Albert Einstein, General Patton, and the universe. I believe that there is no other intelligent life in the universe. We are an anomaly, the one unpredictable variable in the entire universe. Think of all life on the planet, dogs, trees, tigers; they all live for the sole purpose of living. In the flow of natural and keeping this planet self sustaining, we were supposed to stay Neanderthals. This is the reason Neanderthals and homosapiens are different; when a tribe of Neanderthals were just stewing around in their own little pack one day, one of them just looked around and said to himself “I wonder what’s over there?” That is the moment humans became an anomaly, we work against the life sustaining harmony of the universe. The universe is ours to explore. I do believe that there is life on other planets, but I do not believe that it is intelligent. Since we are an unpredictable variable in the pattern of life, everything is ours to take.
-
i want to look at this from a philosophical stand point, so please put some thought into this. i do not believe that there is other intelligent life in the universe. i think humans are an anomily and that the universe is ours for the taking. now this thought brings up a lot of over thoughts such as god or the afterlife. i have been pondering this for many days and have formed many beliefs, feel free to ask me any questions, and we'll get a good debate going about this.
