It has occurred to me that this discussion has ignored gravity WITHIN A SPHERE. The very center of the planet would experience ZERO gravity, as mass surrounds it in all directions. Low density material, like hydrogen and helium, in whatever phase, would migrate in a direction away from the relative gravity well of the surrounding planetary mass. Just a thought. Physicists can work out the details.

Moderation note: The first 5 posts of this thread were moved from the Strange Claims thread 13598 and the Earth Science thread 19656, because those threads are long and old, so new discussion is better served in a new thread I have not been present for a few years, but something has been bothering me about the earth core debate. I can easily discount the centrifical effect for creating the possibility for hydrogen migrating to the core. However, I can conceive of hydrogen migrating there. Low density hydrogen gas in a higher density medium will migrate counter to a gravitational attraction, that is, up into the air. I am not sure of the relative density of liquid or solid hydrogen in relation to high density media. OOPS. Point is: The center of the Earth approaches ZERO gravity.

Happy, Great breeds. I love them all; each with a distinctive personality within the breed. I've had challenges with some forms of coccidia, alright. Hyperthyroidism in cats seems to be a greater dilemma these days. It seemed to spread across the country like an infectious disease starting in the '80's. I'm thinking virus. Appreciate the welcomes. Permit me an observation. This is an interesting? site. No other has produce as much intrinsic turmoil AND in such a short time. Maybe it's because I'm not yet able to rise above the smoldering sea of passion that I can feel here. The tidal strain of logic and emotion, not unlike dealing with a bipolar personality, is taxing. Best taken in small, I guess; fortunately, I have that option. Science was never this tough. Clients were sometimes. Hope not to offend anyone with my bombasity; any similarity to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. I'll be lurking. Open for consults. Jegroeg

Greetings from the International Space Agency (ISA)

Does DORK still have a negative connotation these days? -
Take karate or judo or wrestling lessons. Strength without propper training and reflexes means little. You will feel a whole lot better when you have the confidence to take care of yourself in the future. Turning the other cheek will grind on you for a long time and affect your pituitary-adrenal axis, unless you're Jesus.

Michaelangelica, If your gray water is similar to mine, then I think detergents may be the more likely culprit for killing your plants.

selenium/Vit. E deficiency will cause serous atrophy of fat and Zenker's degenation(white muscle disease) in cattle, notably see in and around the heart. Much of the northern tier of the US is deficient in soil selenium. I used to do post mortems on dairy cattle with the problem often seen. It is obviously an essential micronutrient for many bodily functions of mammals, at least.

I hit the wrong button and posted before I was ready. I had asthma as a kid when I lived downwind of NYC. No one else in the family had ever had a problem with allergies. When I left home and went to Montana at 19 I never had another problem until years later when I emptied a vacuum cleaner and inhaled some dust. I used to have a curious histamine reaction to trauma. A scratch would result in a huge welt. and a minor hit to the lip, for example, would result in a massive swelling reminiscent to a mugging. That has also passed but much more recently. Obviously I had mast cell problems. Can't say it is genetic since there have been no history in either side of my family for as far back as can be remembered by my grandparents recollections. The new treatment for autoimune and allergy problems by infecting sufferers with intestinal parasites is very interesting. Makes sense. The parasite infuses its host with mediators to supress the immune response for its own benefit.

I subscribe to the hygene theory. The healthies people I know played in the dirt as children. Anecdotally, of course. I think there is growing evidence in the scientific community.

The visual phenomena are called "phosphenes" due to pressure on the retina or optic cortex. Climbing mountains certainly increases intracranial pressure as well as intraocular pressure. There is an article in Wikipedia.

Eastern Europe is certainly most alluring. A trip down the Danube, perhaps. I havetoo many responsibilities to take care of for the next little while, however. (Never had kids, fortunately). So that will have to wait. Central America and Mexico used to be a good vacation spot, but I'm too old to considering being kidnapped or mugged. I use to do Latin America when it was more benign. "Dems were the good old days". As things present themselves today, I'm sticking to the good old U.S. of A. There is so much to see here and the safety factor is better. And I can leagally carry a firearm in most states, since I am licensed. Not that I am paranoid or anything. If you want to be impressed with hardship, go to Africa and India. Try to be stoic or weep for them and then come back to the States and kiss the ground. I did. I'm heading for Arizona, Utah and Montana this Spring. Gas prices are on the way up. Next year it may be worse. Sorry for the you younger guys, since traveling may not be so affordable soon.

Does the original thread date give anyone a clue?

Hello, everyone. I happened upon this site, somehow. I like the varied views and interests. I am a retired Veterinarian and enjoy all the natural sciences. Traveling as much as possible and taking pix. Astronomy and astrophysics are longtime favorites. The theories are getting fantastic. I hope I live long enough to see a Grand Unified Theory solidified.
