  1. Well, I gave up on Emachines entirely, about 5 years ago, after having to return 4 in a row from 2 different stores. Those don't even handle XP very well, so I'm not surprised you are having trouble. I *apologize* for saying how *happy* I *am* about Vista on my *own* machine. I'll *stop* now.
  2. I'm sorry to hear of your trouble, Buffy. What kind of machine did you buy? I ended up getting a Sony Vaio Laptop, which appears to have had all the necessary drivers installed. The Vaio itself appears to "update" a bit, but the OS hasn't had to update much yet. I had to install separate drivers for my recent model Epson printer, but it only took a second. I can't speak to the Barbie games, but I'm running Warcraft, Spellforce 2, and age of Mythology with no trouble. I hope it will end up working! If there is a conflict, Vista may automatically disable Aero for the program to work. If it doesn't, disable it manually. (I actually don't mind how the system looks as long as it works) Also, my office 2003 Pro works with no trouble, though I've heard of others having problems with Outlook for some reason. Maybe it depends on the pc maker. It's sounding to me like some pc manufacturers are turning them out without caring whether or not the machines are really ready. This would be about normal:( I had alot more trouble with XP's compatibility with various hardware a few years back than I'm having with Vista now.
  3. There has been alot of noise on the net about CAD progs not working on Vista. I am actively making CAD on Vista. All you have to do is disable the Windows Aero theme, which interferes with CAD, and then it runs like a top. You have to have OpenGL capability, which has always been the case. Honestly, at this point, I'm enjoying Vista enough that I wouldn't go back unless I had no choice.
  4. So far so good with Vista here still.
  5. Very well, then. I shall try back at a later date.
  6. My understanding is that the "duties" for importing metal products from China is the lowest of any materials, with paper products being among the highest. One would have thought the opposite  I've poked around on Ebay and asked a few sellers of "Bronze" sculpture where they manufacture. The answer was China because of the lack of regulations. Great, so who cares about the people? No one.
  7. Are you running Norton? It creates that error sometimes.
  8. Danke mein Freund! Bitte, Ich notig haben Korrektor mit mein Deutsch Ja, das ist korrekt, Ich nicht aus Deutschland kommt. Ich wollen auf kommen Deuschland. Ich lerne Deutsch mit der Rosetta Stone Software, (but need German speakers to talk to) (Sorry if I am doing badly so far. I will be reading how everyone else uses the words so as to conjugate verbs, etc. correctly:) )
  9. And the word is... the tech doesn't know. He just guessed based on the erratic behavior of the mac and it's inability to do many things. I'm assuming that he will get the machine fixed and no one will actually be sure what it was.
  10. Ich habe zwei Katzen. Ein Katz ist Schwarze, und ein Katz ist SchwarzeWeiss. (LOL corrections always and forever welcome, I entered this without referencing Google:)
  11. The wording used by the person who told me was "she had to have her computer rebuilt". I wonder if they just meant a re-install. Hmmm...I'll poke my head back in when I have more info...
  12. I have hands free calling in my car. I can't sand people driving while holding a cell phone and not being able to stay in their lanes. I've had people yacking on the phone and just changing lanes and almost running me down, because they don't know I'm there. I think it is a ticket-able offense here, as far as I know, but so many people do it the cops don't bother with enforcement. I wish it were treated as drunk driving, because it causes alot of accidents.
  13. Thanks for the insights, Alexander and Tormod. I will ask her more about it. It really is just as likely that the techs just told her that... My comments on Microsoft were mainly based on my experience with Vista and it's current incompatibility with Kubotek KeyCreator, the software I need to run. Microsoft's help data on this says that other software developers who use the win32hlp.exe file will have to change their software to run on Vista. Their reason for deciding not to offer support for win32hlp.exe was "it hadn't been updated in a long time and it was deemed to be no longer up to standard." My suggestion would have been to update it,lol. Fortunately, it looks like they will get around to it. Tormod, Thanks for your comparison of updates. As a designer, I will likely be getting a Mac someday, for it's benefits.
  14. Thanks Eric! I do feel the subtitles added help me allot, since I am still a beginner.:esad: I have been reading in the German forum a little, and I'll do my best to jump in. After all, that was what I was looking for when I found this site.
