“Hierarchy”

By: Allen Sherman

The worker ants,

Incarcerated and vigorous,

Works hard all year.

Like a hard working

blue-collar human,

Drones all day

Just to end up

Stomped on the next one.

Pitied by the drones,

The drone ants,

Emancipated and lethargic,

Negligently it meanders around

To find its mate,

The queen ant.

Like the middle class,

It lives day to day

Bemoaned,

Like a schooner

Jam-packed with water

Tipping over the edge.

And on top is the queen ant,

Egotistical and forlorn.

It has no equal

As it stands

At the bottom of life

Lusting for purpose.

Moral: People lust for money and fame, but once there lust for happiness and loneliness.
