cyclonebuster Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 :):eek2: Looks like a storm shelter in the background once the photo is enlarged with support structure in it! http://marsrover.nasa.gov/gallery/all/2/r/1407/2R251273680EFFAX00P1314R0M1.JPG Quote
freeztar Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Looks like a big rock with sunlight hitting it. :) Quote
cyclonebuster Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 You looking at the middle object directly in front on the horizon? Quote
freeztar Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Yes, the one at the top that is bent (arched) by the spherical lens. Quote
cyclonebuster Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 So that is a rock? Sure is a weird rock. Quote
freeztar Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 There's no doubt that it is a cool image and one which requires some study to make sense of. Imagine straightening/"un-curving" the image. The rock at the top would look much like the tabular rocks of the western US. It would look like a rectangular-topped mesa. Looking at where the sunlight is hitting, one can see that only the bottom portion of the rock is illuminated, giving the impression that there is compositional difference. How exactly did you get to this image? What to the images taken before and after this one look like? Quote
cyclonebuster Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 There are many other images of this! I'll provide more links. Quote

cyclonebuster Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 Took an optical photo of the computer screen with image. Seems like you can see more internal detail of the object. Quote
modest Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I've seen many pics from spirit and opportunity - but I honestly don't know what I'm looking at here. I upped the contrast as much as possible without loosing info: it must be part of spirit - modest Quote
