  1. CraigD if you get a chance check your messages that Shodan and I sent you. I think they could be helpful in finding your information on these tentacles at nanoscopic levels!
  2. From what I've noticed, a lot of people believe that lucid dreaming would be a decent approach to follow as the body is in a temporary state of paralysis! But from what I understand about sleep, (and feel free to correct me) what it looks like is that... 1: REM sleep or ordinary sleep would have to be brought into this, and the problem with that is if you only get ordinary sleep, you will go insane (not an exaggeration, an actual observed fact! You will lose your mind.) and with only REM sleep (which to my knowledge is the state that allows you to have dreams, however out of the ordinary they could be) you would be a very cranky and grumpy person. 2: When dreaming in general, the body is paralyzed, excluding those who suffer from sleep disorders, and doesn't send motor signals to the body telling the muscles to contract, or extend, or move to any extent! So how would you collect signals or intercept them if the body isn't recieving them at all! And shutting off pain receptors to not register, isn't that tied in to the PNS? Which would be something to put in this device to tell it to ignore or accept those receptors considering its those receptors that seem to work hand-and-hand with touch sensory! Correct whatever is wrong! But I don't want to head down any dead roads if we move past the collaboration stage!
  3. It's was probably not the best idea to no keep up on this for a few weeks. But from what I'm reading in craigD's post earlier, are you talking about having wires that in a sense "plug in" to the CNS and PNS?
  4. @akiro I feel your pain, I do my research off my iPod since my ridgeback thought my laptop would make a better chew toy then a rubber bone.... But CraigD, since most (if not all) of my direction comes from you, and Shodan, I would like to know where to begin From what I hopefully understand, couldn't we use this information gathered from the neurons and nerve cells that are modified? I need sleep, I apologize in advance.
  5. I've signed up for the website http://nervegearsquad.clanwebsite.com/ If anyone else is on it or we have a different site that we prefer, let me know.
  6. I see where your coming from regarding funds. A lot of big name companies would actually throw money at you to see if the idea would go anywhere! Microsoft supposedly does this kind of stuff all the time. But when it comes to being rich off of this, I do see where in a lot of cases, the creators would sell out their product and then watch it be made to something horrible. Easily 2 examples, Halo (imo it had an absolute perfect ending, I wish I didn't end but bungie did it right!) and minecraft which I'm sure we all know what is happening with that. But as far as funding goes, I believe we should put a pin in it until we have somewhere to go in regards to physically building the device. But I see what you guys are worried about. About sh*t being rushed and poorly made for financial reasons or so we can simply make a quick buck. Honestly, we won't know anyone's inentions until we get to this form in the road. But just so I can update everyone on my looking into the haptic systems, unfortunately the only thing that I could find was to use a modified tens unit in the sense of instead having 4 electrodes jammed onto your main muscle groups, it would have tons of micro-sensors planed throughout the entire body. When pressure would be needed, it can send a sign that determines which sensors click on and add a slight electric jolt. Just enough to simulate pressure. Apologies if this isn't helpful.
  7. What about those guys out on the internet that hack into the systems (I would say hackers but that doesn't seem like the correct term I'm looking for) for the sole purpose to either steal information, or in something so vulnerable, use their skills to injure or kill a person while in game. We learned from people like the so called "Lizard Squad" who are able to break into places that are supposedly impenetrable, that anything can be broken into. So I'm a little worried about is that we could run into an issue like that. Would we eventually have to build our own security system(s) or just head out on the market, buy what's out there and hope for the best? Not trying to be negative, but it's something that came into my head while reading the previous post.
  8. @Shodan and CraigD... Every time I come on here and read your guys post, I feel like I have to take a week to hibernate so my brain can rest considering you guys are incredibly bright! No sarcasm intended, I will look into the Haptic feedback and see what I can find. I have a general idea on where to begin and I'll hopefully have some credible information or concepts to pass on to you guys. Lol honestly it feels like you guys are over on one side of the lab building a rocket with toothpicks and I'm in the corner beating 2 rocks together to make ice! But I'll keep it brief and just end it with "I'll do my best."
  9. Its good to see the collaboration. I do follow this thread daily, and it's good to see regulars on here fighting for the same dream. I also wanted to add that I agree with what he mentioned about heading to a virtual world to escape from the world full of greed, poverty, suffering, and evil. A lot of people (including some of my old friends) play long-term games simply for the reason of escaping the real world. We look at World of Warcraft and we see that a small percentage of the players on it will spend every second of their free time playing so they can be happy, because entering this world (to some players) is one of the only things to make them smile! In the medical sense, it can prove dangerous. But it doesn't mean that there isn't a positive side to it also! The amount of support we would get from those players would be enormous! And we would help make people happy, by letting them be something that they would never be able to achieve in the real world (from their standpoint.) I'd like to make sure that we're all on the same page here, but I feel like we are shooting ourselves in the foot by bring up problems that we can't do anything about at this time. So for now, while the site is being created, maybe we can look into some of the obstacles that we can deal with now! Such as our method approach to being able to sync Into such a system. There has to be a stepping point that we can begin at. I actually have to go back over a few pages of the thread as a review considering the fact that I can only allow my free time to assist in this project (which is not a lot at all) has me going over and looking at everything a second time. And as I say in every thread I post, I apologize to anyone who may take offense or if I messed up in my understanding. English is my first language, but I hang around a bunch of illiterate d@*#s all day.
  10. @RedicicleV2 I believe that is the main goal here, so yes. But getting our game plan ready will help us get up this mountain faster!
  11. @shodan, it's nice to see another person who is enthusiastic about the concept of this specific device. And as I have stated earlier, I am a general college student focusing in psychology and neurology (gotta start somewhere!) But since you have an idea on where we should focus on, then how do you propose we start out? As I've mentioned in the past, a lot of the information is jumbled around in random areas of this specific thread. I would like to start on a focused obstacle at some point. And correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm used to being wrong) but the concept idea from the SAO series, I understand we want to build a reality world that actually places us (for lack of a better term) "inside our own minds" but we aren't trying to copy the nerve gear right? My main reason for bringing it up is because I've seen multiple groups out there (my guess is that they're just hardcore fans of the series) trying to replicate it, and one including actually using the activation term like in the series... I think it was "burst link"? But getting off track, I just want to make sure that we're working towards our objective by working off what's practical and not what's depicted in the series. Again feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, it's how I learn.
  12. I did a little poking around (unfortunately I haven't been able to invest more time as I originally anticipated so I'm not overly done with looking on the Internet for some answers or talking to my professors about what I'm looking for. But after conversing with my psych professor, we both found this technology called BrainGate. Supposedly it is used for those who have lost a limb or suffer from other medical issues. Again I wasn't able to look too much into it, but if I understand it correctly, it intercepts signals being sent to the brain to a specific location (like a calf or lower arm for example) from the brain stem where the majority of the neurons pass through on the way to the rest of the body. And if I'm not mistaken, if it can intercept these signals and be modified and written with these specific programs and algorithms. And once again I apologize for not getting back sooner, giving better information, or credible (if this is not worth looking to then I apologize again) I will keep looking into this further. Hopefully I can find more information. By the way www.braingate.com is the URL.
  13. If you are the one who brought up the master list earlier in this thread, then yes. I thought it was a rather good idea considering how much we were jumping around (including myself.)
  14. I don't have a problem, I have a general direction to look into regarding this subject. Does anyone disagree? Or the more knowledgeable people have any issues regarding this? Maybe they have a better suggestionon where to put our focus at. But needless to say, I'll see what I can come up with, I don't want the list to come off as "half-assed".
  15. But hey, I think we need to keep this conversation on track. After looking at all the posts again it seems that we're jumping all over the place. So I want to follow the idea that someone stated earlier about making a "master list" on what we need to start with. Since Craig, zazz, and a few other originals are posting the main areas of focus, I figured that the main contributors (and if appropriate, I'll even jump in if needed) collaborate and come up with a stepping stone such as figuring out how to control the image and control processing while in deep sleep (or REM sleep if you prefer!)
