Hi! With stumble if found this very interesting forums, Im really Mojca, coming from Slovenia (Europe) where I work in medical faculty as researcher in genetics and mol. biology. I also have BSc in microbiology and now I'm working on PhD. More or less research mad cow disease, differet syndomes -but mostly I research different types of cancer. I like to spend my free time outside - going to parks, on trips or at least to the theatre, movies or commedy club. Like reading and spending time surrounded with animals. Although I work a lot I make time for friends and other. I have fun in life.

that is normal- we are living world for the bacteria and viruses- more or less we cannot exist without them. And the are so much smaller and so very usefull:)

What do you think about GM food? Is it a threat or is it something we use for thousands of years without serious or known consequences? I do not believe GM food- as we know it today- is bigger threat than crossbreeding or interbreeding of plants and animals.

Cancer (as genetic progress of changing cells to immortal and as disease) is so versatile disease that even the same type can be very different in different patient. I myself am working in cancer genetics and molecular biology and more i know more i believe that cancer (this or that form) will outlive the humans. I don't believe will ever find universal 'pill' which you will take and be cured of cancer but we all are making progress in early diagnostic, better treatment of patients and better life quality after cancer- there are many excellent drugs, kemotherapeutic and diagnostic techniques- but only available to very very wealthy individuals- medicine is expensive. That is the main problem!

First of all- human cell has many mechanisms for activation of apoptosis and it should have- if one blocks for any reason than other turns on. Apoptosis is final answer for sick cell for not to interfere (replicate and overgrow other healthy cells) to be eliminated- but apoptosis is not reason for us to age. Telomeres are short endings of chromosomes made by telomerasis. During replication of DNA telomeres are shortened by polymerase (because of the nature of replication) so each cell has only final number of replication, because when telomeres are gone polymerase start to shorten genes - that is why cell must die- if not it would certainly not work properly. Secont- during lifetime intententionally or not we wear cells down- they become less and less vital- enzymes are making more and more mistakes, DNA is not translated and replicated properly.... so we are more o less determined to die. Yust one thing for brainstorming: If we would (could) stop apoptosys- wouldnt that mean more and more diseases ? I prefere to die than to live as one big cancer.

Sleep more- cells are never lazy, they are working even if you don't feel like it:).

As i see it: HIV like other viruses and diseases (virus is not a disease itself) is natural selection which is ongoing process. I personally don't believe in all conspiracy thing concerning HIV as custom made virus. We are still not so smart. HIV can provoke AIDS to start but it's not necessary, somepeople with HIV will never get ill (AIDS), but if the body cannot 'kill bugs' then they are carriers for life. HIV is like any other virus- his 'problem is only' that not adapted enough on human- so it can bring us down. It's really young virus and with time it can become mild as common flu.
