COVID-19 coping support catastrophizing

Some individuals are especially sensitive to threatening situations such as the present COVID-19 pandemic, and tend to develop catastrophic attitudes towards it. Catastrophism is defined as a negative cognitive–affective response to an anticipated or actual threatening situation o experience. This concept was developed on a physical pain context, however it is fully extrapolable to different situations. It involves constant concern and rummiation of negative thoughts related to the situation, magnification of fear and unpleasantness, high expectations of negative outcomes and low self-efficacy or control over the situation. It is also known that catastrophization may lead to or worsen some ailes such as stress, depression, fear, pain perception, social dysfunction, etc. Feeling worried or distressed is natural when going through hard times, however we have to keep an eye on our attitudes so we do not create an extra “mental burden” by catastrophizating. Sharing with others our thoughts and feelings on something that ails us is a nice way to compare, relativize and come up with a different focus that (hopefully) fosters new ways to cope with hard times.

Nothing has changed for me during this pandemic.

What bothers me is the stupid facemask I have to wear to work. I just love breathing in my carbon dioxide. Other then that the Covid didn't effect me except for people and governments and the media being stupid.
