Keep in mind the D is OCD is 'disorder'. Contemplating over beads -whether rosary, malas, et al- is only a disorder if it disturbs the normal physical or mental health of the contemplant.

Keep in mind the D is OCD is 'disorder'. Contemplating over beads -whether rosary, malas, et al- is only a disorder if it disturbs the normal physical or mental health of the contemplant.

In this case

 

  1. there is no damage to the hippo-campus
  2. it is entirely voluntary

 

In this respect it differs from classic OCD

It is a kind of induced OCD.

 

The use of a rosary creates excessive attention to -

  • counting
  • chanting (possibly some prayer or mantra)

This is similar to OCD where the subject pays attention to door locking or hand washing (both cases of classic OCD).
