The Callan Method - Linguistic Logic Or Tongue Twisting Twaddle?

This method, which I assume to be UK based, teaches language by firing words at foreign learners until they can repeat them fluently, according to the tutor.  As far as I know it doesn't teach meaning just sounds of English, building up a vocabulary word by word (most common 4,000).  Does anybody think this would be effective or even know through experience? The link below gives details but is not a link to the official site as it doesn't seem to tell you anything about what the method entails, so giving you this makes more sense.




Funnily enough my approach to language teaching is similar except I include spelling and build up a bigger vocabulary, through pattern creation (see second link):  Please compare and comment.




Over all, do you think either method has merit?
