In Search of Dark Asteroids (and Other Sneaky Things)

September 15, 2009: Ninjas knew how to be stealthy: Be dark. Emit very little light. Move in the shadows between bright places.

In modern warfare, though, ninjas would be sitting ducks. Their black clothes may be hard to see at night with the naked eye, but their warm bodies would be clearly visible to a soldier wearing infrared goggles.

I've brought up the possibility of an alien civilization existing here in our own Solar System in several threads and how they might not only avoid gravity wells in general but life bearing planets in particular. Such a civilization would value the raw materials in places like Jupiter's Lagrange points the Ort-cloud and the main asteroid belt, Ceres might be particularly valuable.

These beings could take the slow way to travel between stars looking for raw materials to build their traveling colony word-lets. Stars like our Sun might be particularly attractive due it it's high metal content. We humans on the Earth would be blissfully unaware of these Aliens since the Earth would be essentially worthless to them due to the difficulty of transporting materials from the surface.

Keeping their presence hidden would be as easy as using infrared lasers to communicate. This space craft should detect the infrared lasers but more importantly it will be able to detect the signs of industry in space. Anomalous heat sources from places that should be cold will be easily detectable. Concentrations of industry should light up like a Christmas tree!

We could very well be on the very edge of detecting Aliens right here in our solar system! Not only will an infrared view of our solar system be extremely interesting it could very well expose the incredible!
