  1. Why is it that the speed of light is constant, and not even affected by gravity? Also...logic dictates that if you shoot a gun from a moving car, the bullet moves at it's normal speed, plus the speed of the car. However, I've heard this isn't true for light; that the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. Is that true? If so, why is that? If this is too difficult to explain in a post, I apologize. I'll read whatever links you can post, if that's the case.
  2. Hi, I'm new to the forums. I'm not a scientists, nor do I have any degrees in any scientific field...but science fascinates me nonetheless. I have to admit...I was once religious, and once thought that creationism/ID were valid scientific beliefs. I'm no longer religous, not even the least bit. I'm a writer, and I like to read about a wide variety of things. This forums seems full of very knowledgable people, and I think I'll enjoy coming here.
  3. Wow, I didn't see there was a reply to this. Thanks so much for your responses. That clears up a lot of my questions. And yeah, I guess I should introduce myself, Craig. I'll do that.
  4. I know that there's no sound in space...but why exactly? I know the air on earth is a "conductor" for sound, and there's no air in space...but what happens to sound waves in space? Is any sound even generated, or is it that human ears simply can't pick it up? What would happen to the sound waves, if an astronaut played a boom box in space? Thanks for any help you can offer.
