  1. Doing some work with Matlab. (unhappy about this...) Does anyone know where I can find the tag to make descending same number rows? EXAMPLE: A = 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 THANKS!
  2. OK I found out that Element-by-Element is "To perform an element by element multiply the two vectors must be exactly the same size." Now how do I do this with only one vector??
  3. I'm having trouble understanding Element-by-Elements in GNU Octave for Matrices. The exact wording of the problem I'm having difficulties on is as follows: A = [1 4 2; 8 6 2] -Define element-by-element, using multiple commands. -Define all elements at once, using only one command. Can someone help me or link me to a tutorial? I'm using GNU Octave 3.0.1 for Linux if it makes any difference. I've read through some articles online but I'm still not exactly sure what I'm suppose to do with the program. Thanks!
  4. Any suggestions to get by?
  5. My school has Lightspeed System. This is an advanced security system that blocks many, many "non school appropriate websites" (just in case you didn't know) I have some computer knowhow and I've looked through settings and studied up a bit on Lightspeed but I'm still unable to get past this block (without using a proxy). Many of the things I try to do to get past Lightspeed require Administrator Passwords on the computer, which no one except for one teacher has. However, I bring my personal laptop to school on a regular basis and hook myself up to the Internet. using my own administrator account and access to settings, is there a way i could alter my personal lap top settings to void the block or is it through the district network which I am unable to access or alter anything? (Note* I am NOT trying to "hack" the school.... Proxies carry virusus and SpyWare and I hate using them... However I find it inconvient when certain websites are blocks [i am *not* referring to MySpace]) If anyone could help me, that'd be great. :)
  6. Also, things I forgot to mention: Constant hunger (like munchies) and I've been bruising easilly... I'm stressed because I'm about to go to college and school is pretty crazy right now (plus work) so there's not much I can do as far as solving my stressieness. I am a heavy caffeine addict and I did try to quit, but right now, and I am aware how pathetic this sounds, I don't have time to go through withdrawls. (The headache, the nausia, the tiredness, etc.) I really like Thunderbird's answer.... The last part especially struck me....
  7. Stress related huh? That could be the reason I suppose.... If there's nothing I can do to get rid of the things that are stressing me out, is there anything I can do to help stop the symptoms?
  8. Original Problem: 9x^2 = 9 Steps: 1. 18x + 2yy' = -18x 2. 2yy' = -18x 3. y'= -9x/y 4. y''= -9 (y * - x * y'/ y^2) 5. y''= -9 (y - x (-9x/y)/y^2) 6. y'' = -9 (y^2+9x^2)/(y^3) Answer: y'' = -81/y^3 These are the steps from the answer book. My friends and I got up to about step four with no problem, but we can't really understand what they did when they started on the second derivative. Can someone kinda break down steps 4-6? Like what they did/how/why they did it? Thanks! :)
  9. Google helps very little The "symptoms" are: Sensitive skin (particularly on the stomach and arms) [almost panful/itchy] Light Headed Chest Pains Exaustion Does this sound familiar to anyone?
  10. Well, I just wanted to make sure everyone could get on the right page, you know? I don't require answers (even though I completely appreciate Pyrotex.... I sat there and stared at it for a while and then I solved it and actually figured it out and "got it" by myself.... so Thank you VERY MUCH, Pyrotex!) I don't quite understand what you mean by this though, Symbology. Thanks for the help again! And yes, sanctus... that's what I meant but I couldn't figure out how to get it to look like that :) I've figured out the rest of those problems except for y = x^2 from x = 3 to x = 4.... If anyone could just start me off, I'd totally appreciate it... Unfortunately, my calc. teacher has been out lately, which is why I've come here for help instead of just asking him. Thanks again, Pyrotex! :eek2:
  11. Hey there. I just have a few questions on the Calculus problems.... We're on a very difficult section right now and I just can't figure these out. It's taking the derivative/antiderivative :) Derivative: f(x) = x^2 – 3x 2x^2-1 – 3x^1-1 2x^1 – 3x^0 2x - 3 f(x) = 5x^3 (x^4-3x^2) 5 (3)x^3-1 ((4)x^4-1 – 3(2)x^2-1) 15x^2 (4x^3 – 6x^1) Antiderivative: f(x) = x^4 – 5x^3 + 2x – 6 x^4 – 5x^3 + 2x^1 – 6x^0 1 • 1/5x^5 + C1 – (5 • 1/4x^4 + C2) + 2 • 1/2x^2 + C3 1/5x^5 + 1 1/4x^4 + 1x^2 – 6 + C Use limits to find the area between each curve and the x-axis for the given interval. y = x^2 from x = 3 to x = 4 3∫4 x^2 dx = 0∫4 x^2 dx = 0∫3 x^2 dx 0∫4 x^2 dx ∆x = 4/n xi = 4i/n lim ∑ (4i/n)^2 • 4/n n →∞ i = 1 256i^2/n^4 256 • 1^2/ n^4 + 256 • 2^2/ n^4 + ... + 256 • n^2/ n^4) 256/ n^4 • (1^2 + 2^2 + … + 256 • n^2/ n^4) This is at far as I got Define Integral: 2∫4 (x + 2)(2x + 3) dx I need help starting out Integral: ∫ (x^2 + 5x +2) dx I need help starting out Limit: lim ( 1/t – 1/ t^2 + 1) t → 0 (1/t + t^2/1 +1) 0 +1 1 I really think this is wrong Can anyone help me?
  12. About 24 hours ago, my lips suddenly started to feel like they were burning and my bottom lip is swelled a bit. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something I'd eaten earlier, but when I woke up this morning and found my lips to be in the same condition they were in, I decided that was not the case. Now they don't LOOK much different from normal (execept for the deeper red color). They feel almost like they're sunburnt but it's the middle of the winter so I don't how likely that it... I've beend rinking water and constantly applying chap stick but nothing seems to be working. I googled it, thinking maybe it was a wicked cold sore or something, but I got nothing. I wouldn't exactly say "I'm worried" but if I wake up tomorrow morning and nothing has changed I may be. Does this sound familiar to anyone?? Any tips?
  13. Is it really possible to change the PH factor if you want to have a boy or a girl when you get pregnant, or is it merely luck of the draw?
  14. My friend's MySpace got hacked into and a bunch of bulletins got sent out via his account. He seems to think a keylogger got shoved into his system because of a comment my cousin posted on his MySpace that had a screenshot of a video and clicking on his led to a blank page. I got the same comment but I didn't click on it. My mom also got the comment on hers, a she attempted to click on it numorous times, always getting the blank page. The bulletins that get sent out appear to have a link that lead to the same page. TO THE POINT I don't much care about my MySpace, but I've been having issues logging into my email since about yesterday. The only difference is, my mom and I both have Windows Vista, while my friend who was having the issues still has XP. I haven't seen any strange bulletins go out through my mom's MySpace, but I don't get on that often. I did the deep/trojan/virus/spywar/adware scan thing and nothing came up, btu that was for XP. I don't know a bunch about keyloggers. When you design a keylogger for mal purposes, do you have to design it for a certain system type? Like XP or Vista? Or can it be used for both? How can I find out if I do indeed have a Keylogger on my computer without downloading some program? Anyone got any advice for me? THANKS
  15. T.T It's a miracle I got past fourt grade multiplication, nonetheless Calculus. *cries* I appriciate your help (again) THANKS! ^.^
  16. Thank you, you were... But aren't formulas what math is all about?
  17. I'm doing a Pre-Calculus section review & this section has been difficult for me. So I do have quite a few questions. No, they're not "Give me the answer" questions... They're "Am I doing this right?" questions. The first one I have is about Graphs of Trigonometric Functions: Angles/Radians. The instructions are: Evaluate each expression. Sin 7π/6. OK, the problem with this one is I'm not sure which formula I should use to solve it. 2. Instructions (same section): Given the measurement of a central angle, find the length of its interception arc in a circle of radius 14 centimeters. Round to the nearest tenth. 5π/12 What I want to do: 5π/12 x π/180 and then s=rө s= 14(ans) I don't have my calculator on me at the moment.... All I want to know is if that's the right track... not the answer* 3. Find the area of each sector given its central angle ө and the radius of the circle. Round to the nearest tenth. ө= 5π/12, r= 10 A= 1/2r^2ө Is that the formula I need? 4. Find each value by referring to the graph of the sine or the cosine function. sin 11π I have no idea. I need a formula for this one, too. Think anyone can help me out?? (Again, I don't want answers...... just formulas and/or "Yeah! You're on the right track!" or "You need to rethink your process." Thanks! :hyper:
  18. I feel the need to contribute to this conversation somewhat myself. This is the real ThisIsMyName. Our entire school line (The connected Elementary School + High School) has a weak discipline system. When I moved from what you would think of as a "normal school" with regular teachers and traditional punishments etc. I remember being surprised and relieved when I found out how laid back everything was. (There was a time when I did something at a dance and should have been put up for expulsion but didn't get much more than a slap on the wrists) Now that I've matured a bit since, I realize I should have been horrified. And just recently our school "remembered" that board rules say that after three detentions it's a suspension (after a couple students had up to eight detentions). I have had personal encounters with Mike; I know he is an utter sexist. Most of us have learned not to let it get to us. It is difficult because he's one of the top dogs at our school, so people are afraid to stand up to him because of his power that he supposedly weirlds over these teenagers that can't realize high school as just a temporary state (EG: Who think if they piss of the almighty one, they're entire future will be ruined). It's difficult to deal with. I can vouch for my teacher. She is an AWESOME teacher. I just can't understand why these people find it so hard to respect her. And I think it's unfair with the staff/principal constantly being changed there's no chance for anyone in "power" to develop a record of these kids who need an eye kept on them. But for now I think we're in the stage of just letting it go because when it comes to SATs and Air Force sign ups and University Essays... The things that count that your friends won't be around to copy off of, they'll get their just desserts.
  19. I was given this problem and I think I've got about half way through but now I'm totally stumped. Here's the problem: The point is to find the volume. The 3, 2, & 1 are ratios, not the real number; but the 7√2 is real (it comes out to be about 9.8). What I did was take a triangle out using 7√2 as one side, 2 and another, and then labeling the remaining side d for diagonol. After a lot of scribling and trying various formulas, I have found myself here. If anyone can point me in the right direction or walk through it with me, I'd be extremely grateful.
  20. Well, I've been teaching for years. It's just my second year at this school. And I'm not assuming that everything is because I'm a woman (I don't consider myself to be that sort of woman) it was just an idea I hadn't thought of. I would call our school "dysfunctional" but it deffinately isn't as organized as a larger school would be. Technically, the problemsome boy shouldn't actually be in my class. But if he was in the other English class he wouldn't get to be in Weight Training which he claims he "needs." So he comes into my classroom, doesn't do his work and his excuse is "I'm going into the Airforce so I don't need this stuff." Unfortunately the schedule coordinator and I are not on good terms so he wouldn't remove Michael (the sexist boy) from my class. I am trying to get a rule passed that you must maintain a B to remain in an Honors class (which is how it is actually suppose to be) and that will deffinately filter out some of the students that are giving me issues. So I suppose one of the main reasons I came to this forum is because I need advice in general on what i should do (not neccisarilly because I'm a woman that needs help, just because i'm a teacher that needs help). One of my students swears on this site (this is actually her Login) and says there are really smart people here that have helped her out before.
  21. I appriciate your advice Buffy. I don't think they do it on purpose; I think it's more of a subconcience thing. And our recent detention methods have been incedibly mellow. The male teachers here aren't "pushovers" but neither am I... these boys just treat me as such. Perhaps I will talk to our detention teacher about making the detentions a little more harsh. Yesterday I came up with a decent three step system (1: Detention, 2: Parent Conference, 3: Suspension). When I informed my students, many of them expressed that their "Eigth Grade block system was harsher than that" (which is when the teahcer has the student name and checks next to their name on the board- that's what i understand, anyway.).
  22. Whenever I remove students from the classroom, they go off and wander somewhere. Fortunately we're getting a campus security gaurd to take care of the wanderers. The unfortunate thing is, this school really has had some mixed up things occur. We're int he country and we share a district with a town some forty miles away. Most of the board members come from that town so it is incredibly bias as far as which school gets what. We are just now having a gym built and for the last four years the teachers have been coming and going like mad. This is my second year of teaching and we lost three teachers last year and now have a new principal. My theory is this starts in the elementary school. Since we have a small community, there isn't a sepparate Junior High; so the elementary school is K-8. Some students who have come from bigger Junior High Schools and attended the Elementary School in the middle fo their seventh or eighth grades have told me that the dicipline is incredibly poor compared to their old schools. There isn't much I can do about that. Plus the "leader" of the problemsome boys is incredibly sexist and all the other boys do exactly what he says. What I'm trying to do is like teaching an old dog new tricks.
  23. I am a female teacher who teaches Honors English, english 9 & 10, & Spanish 1, 2, 3 & 4 at a small 50 student High School. In my classes, there are some male students (A group of Freshman and a group of Seniors) who are incredibly disrespectful. I have tried holding discipline with detentions and warnings, but nothing works; it's all a joke to them! This morning, one of my female seniors (who has expressed her annoyance with the groups of boys) suggested that one of the reasons they're so misbehaven in my class is because I am the only female teacher who works at the school. This thought had never occured to me. I'm no Psychology or Science major, but it makes perfect sense. I love my fellow male coworkers and I don't hold this against them, but now that I know... What should I do? I have gotten some other siggestions from the other staffmembers but what works with them doesn't work with me. After hearing about my situation, does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to show my students that I demand as much respect as my male coworkers? Or maybe anymore ideas? Thanks! -Lynda
  24. Thanks for all the information. No, my family hasn't heard anymore information on my friend. I request prayer. Thanks.
  25. Although Will and Thelma has only recently become engaged, their friends were convinced that their marriage would surely end up on the rocks. Why? :)
