NOT AFTERLIFE.after-life is pureply metaphorical. yes, this is my opinion. but i believe it was aristotle who said the eye/soul analogy. Queso Posted July 17, 2005 Report Share Posted July 17, 2005 well it seems to me that it wasn't too long ago (in our history)we just started logging time 2000 years ago....we drew in caves thousands of years before that....(i don't know exactly how long)my guess is, it was a slow evolution. it didn't just appear in someones mind one day.it took millions of years for us to be able to think the way we do today.our minds are still evolving. who knows what's next, eh? Boerseun Posted July 17, 2005 Report Share Posted July 17, 2005 Do you mean with consciousness the "inner voice", or the fact that you can recognize yourself in a mirror - be "aware" of you own existence? In my opinion, I have to agree with orby that consciousness evolved to be what it is because there must be some benefit in it. Maybe self-preservation has something to do with it. But we're not alone in that regard. I'm sure dogs and apes and quite a lot of other animals are "aware" of their existence, in which case they'd also qualify to have a "soul", not? It is possible that creation alone is true; it is possible that evolution is true; and it is possible that a combination of the two is true. I lean towards the latter, but it's important to keep an open mind and consider all possibilities. One could rectify evolution with christian concepts of creation simply by saying "the way God created everything was through evolution." Thats all fine and dandy. Boerseun Posted July 19, 2005 Report Share Posted July 19, 2005 ...There is, in fact, no way to argue away the possibility of an omnipotent entity beyond perception. -WillNot quite - consider: 1) God created everything.2) 'Everything' includes not only matter, but space as well.3) Nothing can exist outside of space.4) Therefore, God, if He/She (I prefer 'It', the only reason God will have a sexual description, would be if there was a 'Godess' as well) exists, it would have to be in space.5) Being omnipotent implies, by the very nature of the word, having infinite energy at your disposal. 6) The only thing with infinite energy (not quite, but the closest to) in the universe, is the universe itself.7) Therefore, God is the universe, and the universe is God. They are inseperable.8) Therefore, we as humans, are actually little bits of God. We might be God's brain, seeing as we are bits of the universe that can question the nature of the universe.9) Then again, looking at Dubya, we might be somewhere close to the ultimate end of the digestive tract.
