Why we need others

Walking across a meadow where I walk the dog today, I noticed a smell of livestock. My question was 'Do I smell it because it is on my hands or do I smell it because I'm siphoning the molecules to my nose, by bringing my fingers to my face?' Someone else with clean hands would be able to answer this query by bringing their own fingers to their nostrils as 'either/ or' pollution wouldn't affect them.

Other questions like this are bound to arise in life, distinguishing between beliefs and facts is what science and the law is about as philosophy always was too.
