Linux becoming a gaming platform

Recommended Posts

The idea about linux not being a gaming OS are slowly dying out i think. I actually never knew how many games were out for it until i got into it. Especially the plug with faster loading times on a linux platform compared to windows it'll only be a matter of time i think before the online mob take it up to get the advantage is their fps games  there's even plans for linux lan parties, not to mention the reinvention of older games revamped with cutting edge 3D graphics, such as the early doom.

A couple of links.

Furthermore, 1 of the graphic monsters sounds like their actually hiring for linux driver writers :Alien: it's all good

Linux runs every Unreal, Doom and Quake made (maybe with an exception of doom 3, not sure), also games like Rune(never played it, but my friend is a fan) as well as any other imaginable game, from emulations (ps an atari emulator has recently come out for linux) to 3d billiards to simutrans(like simcity), glest 3d strategy that looks great, and all your windows games under cedega(HL2, WoW, Knights of the old republic, Battlefield 1942, Max Payne 2, GTA Vice City, Battlefield: Vietnam, WarCraft III, Diablo II, Half-Life, City of Heroes, Star Wars Galaxies, EverQuest, Jedi Knight 2)

enjoy :)

Babbler, first of all there are games a lot like civ available for linux, second of all, civ was a decent game, but there are better strategy games out there than civ, thirdly Linux is a superior platform for anything, it is the game producers fault not to utilize it and lastly civ probably runs in cedega, and if not you can always just run it in WINE, in fact I'm almost 100% positive that it will, and be careful when you say "true gaming platform" the ignorance of game developers has nothing to do with the platform, and OpenGL is superior to DirectX in many ways, speed being the biggest one...

ok, i think what you are trying to ask is pretty obvious, but ok...

Big companies, like the ones who produce Unreal and Quake, distribute their product prebuilt, thus most of the time not revealing any code this allowing for licenses to be applied to their products, thus they can sell the licenses to make money, and if a game is good, rest asure linux people would be more than happy to buy it, not to say that there isnt cracking and keygenning, but nowhere near that in windowz (i mean extent of unwillingness to pay, not actual amount of apps cracked)(not all time, as some games are made by hackers who have the free time and the will to make them). There is still licensing fees and procedures in proprietary application developement for linux (apps such as cedega are not distributed under the GNU public license, but rather their own license).
