Diamond Star

I thought a white dwarf was composed of mainly iron, while a diamond was carbon.

 

Yes pgrmdave; I was wondering the same thing, sounds a little fantastic to me. If we understand the evolution of stars the carbon would have transmutated long before the white dwarf could have formed. Maybe our information is incorrect about this process?
