This is obviously not for me.

perplexity

Recommended Posts

I browsed page after page to look for somebody with a negative rep rating, to see what might be said or done to attract a negative opinion, but soon got bored with that.

Nobody with courage to court controversy?

:)

What a lot of suckers.

:(

Go on, creep, give a moderator a negative comment, I dare you.

Never mind.

:D

What is the weather like outside?

I dont know who the moderator was that neg-repped you (if it was..) but I stand by their judgement 100%

I am sure they by no means meant it as an insult and if you do want to stay around these parts it would do you well to take it as constructive critisism.

You will not find many members with a negative rep rating because most of them dont learn and either get banned or leave. Failing that, some may have reformed and got positive rep that put them back into the blue.

You are still most welcome here, providing that you follow the site rules.

Does "courting controversy" mean "forget your manners"? It is usually more meaningful to participate in a discussion in a friendly manner rather than playing the devils advocate and then taking offense when fronted with difficult questions (which is what usually gets people negatice rep). Or even just using bad language. We have rules and if you follow them you will find that it is not hard to find a lot of friends here - whether you agree with them or not.

Don't be so easily bored perplexity, you'll find that being a Good Neighbor will increase your standing here at Hypography while being a a difficult neighbor will decrease your popularity. Just like it works in the real world my friend, it also has the same results here. Try to exercise some friendlyness and it will be returned......Infy

To suck up to that sort of ignorant, impudent, abusive ****?

No thanks.

"I don't know who the moderator was" is not acceptable.

It is not good mannered, nor is it friendly for anybody to impugn a person's character anonymously, with not so much as a user ID to assign the responsibility to.

You're the one who needs to be taught, not me.

Amen.

Insults certainly won't gain you a good rep.

And if you have received rep of any sort there is a way to see it (at least positive rep, not sure about negative). Did you ask anyone in another thread how you see the details of your rep, or just start blasting away with insults?

It’s important to understand what reputation is, and the difference between it and other things you can get, such as warnings and infractions.

Reputation is an indication of members’ approval or disapproval of each other. Any member – including moderators and administrators, who are also members - may give other members positive (“I approve”) or negative (“I disapprove”) rep, along with an optional comment that only the member receiving the reputation can see (via their user control panel). He can also see when and by whom the reputation was given, and if it is + or -.

To keep the system somewhat accurate and abuse free, limits are placed on how often you can give rep to a member, the result being that sometimes when you attempt to give rep, you’ll get a message saying your must “spread some rep around” before giving it to that member again.

Other than these restrictions, members can give rep for any reason they like. Reputation comments, however, must not be obscene, racist, threatening, etc. – in short, they should follow the site’s courtesy rules.

Your total rep, but not who gave it or their comments, is visible to everyone as a bar of green or red boxes. Members who have received lots of +rep have lots of green boxes, members who have received more - that + have red boxes. This shows at a glance how approved or disapproved of by members in general every member is, and tends to influence how seriously they’re taken.

The system is biased toward + rep. When one gives + rep, twice as many points are added to the target member’s total rep as are subtracted when one gives - rep. So having red boxes shows not only disapproval, but lack of approval.

The more green rep you have, the more your giving rep affects the rep of who you give it to. If you have red rep boxes, you may give rep, but it won’t affect your target’s rep total. The amount of rep you have, green or red, doesn’t affect your ability to post.

Warnings and infractions can only be given by moderators and administrators, and are only given for breaking the site rules. Receiving too many infractions can result in temporary or permanent suspension of your posting privileges.

It’s important for all members to read and understand the site rules. The quoted post breaks the site rules, and could receive an infraction, though because infractions are at the discretion of moderators, it may or may not receive one.

Did you ask anyone in another thread how you see the details of your rep, or just start blasting away with insults?

But it is not anonymous, you can see who it was that left you the rep and the comments that they gave.

The comment that appears to members at large appears as an html tool tip, the title of the image, "reputation_neg.gif", which fails to correspond to "Reputation Received" comments that appear in the User Control Panel, nor did I notice anything anywhere else to account for it.

To the extent, therefore, that an unsuspecting member would assume that the comment appears as a part of the User Control Panel Reputation comment list I have to tell them that this is not the case.

Except to explain that, as a matter of fact, I would not have posted again.

"not acceptable" means not negotiable.

That's because reputation comments are meant to be anonymous.

perplexity, you have a 3 year gap between your first and second post in this thread and you were not active over the last 3 years until you posted in this thread again (no admin power needed to see that, just click on the name of a member and then choose "find more posts by [...]").

In this time many things have changed, have you checked that out?

Maybe instead of posting only here, give it another try and become active again and see what it is like now.

The red icons are not the same as the reputation comments. They display the sum of your reputation.

Every member earns positive reputation every day simply for being a member. More reputation is earned for posting and for being a member over time.

That you have managed to have (currently) three red squares is thus a good indicator to other members that you have received several negative reputations from other members, and you should attempt to improve your standing by changing your behaviour. That is how the system here (and at just about every other forum) works.

The fact fo the matter is that the red icons contain the comment objected to, the title of the same html tag.

That would imply that a comment says more about the target of the comment than the person it came from. I see nothing to convince me of that, not as a fact, nor the possibility.

The assumption appears to persist that I should feel a need for some sort of approval. Their comprehension is thus incredibly poor. I had expected to dispel the delusion with the very first posting to this thread. From there on it fails to amuse me to entertain an idiot without to wit to see so. It gives me the creeps.

I am not so insecure, nor shall I intend to be. I am a mature adult, not an infant in need of an education. While I doubt that they think me half so much of a fool as the appearance pretends, they should find some better company to keep if they do, and so shall I.

I return to call the shot, with hindsight, not to mistake the **** for manna from heaven.

Reputation is a two way deal, not a one way ticket, not a free ride for those who presume to judge, the minders of everybody's business but their own.

Be wise: take the hint, and so shall I.

I do question your maturity, when it would appear that you are playing a game. We have been nice, asked you to check what's new and different, but all you can see is your resentment. You obviously need approval and are concerned what other's may think of you with the bad rep. It might be a good time to take a deep and objective look at yourself as you need others to establish your self worth. Maturity is when you can accept yourself, without other's approval, and admit your mistakes and move on. Your anger and resentment only hurt you, they do not affect us. Please take the time to reflect on this
