The Truth about Religion

There are other ways we "know" where you're coming from.

Number one, many of us came from the same place originally. We're dreadfully familiar with your arguments and the implications of your words because they were OUR arguments and words long ago.

Then we grew up. No. Really. I mean it--we grew up. We mined out all the useful logic of our youthful ignorance and exhausted it. We read books. We explored alternatives. We discovered rich new fields of logic that DID not succumb to trivial counter-arguments.

And then, looking back at our origins, we realized that we were guilty only of being young and foolish. We ALL start out that way. It is not a sin.

The truth about religion is it that describes the inner workings of the unconscious mind. This is most evident in Buddism. If you go to China or Korea there are hundreds of Buddas. There is a laughing Budda, a crying Budda, a sleeping Budda, etc. Notice how this central figure is expressing all types of human propensities. This singular figure also shows all these propensities are coming from a central singular figure. Psycholigy calls it the inner self or the center of the unconscious mind.

Many people prefer to specialize. Some only like the laughing Budda, because they like to laugh most of the time. This is for the ego to decide. But the inner Budda or inner self is complete and contains all human propensities in potentia, whether we use it or not.

Polytheism does the same thing. They have a central god, with all the subgods various aspect of human nature. There is a god of love and sex. There is one of war and anger. They are gods because they exist beyond the will of the ego. They are strong impulses from within. If one is angry, they may not be able to control it at times. That is because the god of anger or an impulse from a higher source in the unconscious minf is taking over the production of angry neurochems.

Western Monotheism is loosely similar to Buddism in that the whole package is projected as being centered on one source. The difference is that Buddism seeks completeness including a union of opposites. Whereas monotheism sets up an internal polarization. Buddism attempts to find a calm place free from opposiiton. Western monotheisn uses the tension of opposite to maintain a creative tension. This is both destructive and constructive.

The brain is the most advanced computer and religion is the programming language for the unconscious parts of the human psyche. The conscious parts may be better tinkered with via psychology.

Look at it this way. A suicide bomber is driven by something beyond themselves (projection of an inner impulse connected to a god that takes them over). Simple logic and reason would not be able to push such a button. But religion uses command lines that work in the deepest layers of psyche making the unthinkable seem like the right thing to do. Simple talk is not going to do anything to counter this. What is needed is a stronger programming language to counter the induced impulses.

Simple, it's called 'Pattern Recognition'.

Example:

Say, "your mama is ugly". Get punched in the nose.

Repeat 10,000 times.

Conclusion: saying "your mama is ugly" will get you punched in the nose.

How do you "know" that?

Pattern Recognition.

How about if an Egghead Wannabe "Scientist" tries to appear smart, then just impresses nobody, say, 50,000 times.

Would the conclusion be, "This pinhead just talks about his imagination"?

Or, maybe the conclusion would be, "This lightweight has no game, because he confuses his feelings with the material world"?

I think I get it, now. It IS simple ...

...or, for that matter, a newbie member, having all the qualities of a forum troll, pitch up and start disrespecting our members here for no other reason than to satisfy his innate trollness.

This member will get banned.

It's happened plenty times before, and as sure as Stanley is my witness, it will happen again.

Saying that this might happen to you, would also be pattern recognition.

Tone it down, Jake, and add something constructive to our forums.

The problem is when the myth becomes reality to believers of the folklore.
