Killing Keiko

I just noticed this article from the Environment News Service:

Norwegian Biologist Wants to Kill Keiko

You might remember Keiko from the movie, Free Willy.

I find it rather amusing that the only thing the ENS can report on is the fact that a biologist has said Keiko should be killed.

I live in Norway, and although I am ashamed about Norway's continued hunting of whales, this news report is an example of sensationalism of the worst kind. Why, nobody can tell Keiko that he was following a Norwegian ship into a zone where there are biologists who wish to kill him.

Keiko is attracted by people - he seeks them out and plays with them! I'd say this all shows that the attempt to bring him "back into the wilderness" may have failed. The poor whale is hardly eating, for some reason. But if it is a problem that people swim with him, then why release him in the first place? He has been in captivity for 20 years, so I don't think it strange that he tries to seek out human beings. But I think it is rather strange that the scientists behind this entire affair expects people to understand that they should *not* have contact with him.

It is all a very sad story, I think...maybe someone would care to comment on this?
