I think it's about time we restart the Hypography newsletter after about a year's absence.

The forum is now so full of new topics every week that I thought we could do this:

1) List of latest active topics

2) List of new topics

3) List of recent articles/press releases, if any

4) List of new links, if any

Anything else we should put in there?

It may sound more like a "Hypography Digest" but maybe that would be effective right now. I want to make sure people are kept up to date on what happens. I can't put a lot more effort into it than that right now but I think it would be a good start.

The frequency could maybe be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or whatever. Maybe every Friday? Monday mornings?

I don't want everyone to be spammed to death so of course this will be optional for everyone. After signing up for the forums, the newsletter will arrive once and then the user will have the option to opt out of it.

Any thoughts? Pros? Cons?

1) More e-mail? I have around a dozen e-ddresses and get literally hundreds of e-mails a day.

2) It might be useful to include info on the site's traffic as well.

3) info like active and new topics, like fish would seem very old in days. Seems anything over weekly would not provide valid info. Except as accumulated statistics. It would not seem to promote interest in the groups listed.

  • 3 weeks later...

I think a newsletter that includes the Top 5 or 10 most active threads, the Most active category, Most active Poster, and possibly a highlight from each category? That would give a nice sampling, but not be too long.

Of course, Yvonne will probably kill me, as I'm sure it will take some time. But then again, YOU could probably automate it all, right?

Who is the target for the mailing? Just those of us that actively post? Perhaps 5-10 people?

I see little reason for that. We are already getting any of this info daily.

The only benefit I would see to a newsletter would be one that went to non-posters. The lurkers. It would need to be based on new articles and latest info. A Science resource. I receive this type from NASA, NCSE (which I have re-posted here) and such. It could highlight a few of the Hypogs along with a little of the dicussions. Links to get to each.

As Irish points out however, it would be time consuming.
