Punctured ear drum, help asap.

Recommended Posts

Cleaning ear.

wasn't gentle enough.

sharp pain.

q-tip came out bloody.

I made the decision, which in retrospect may have been a large error, to rinse it out with water. This caused very sharp pain, and I immediatly stopped.

I can still hear alright out of it.

cannot really afford medical attention

all suggestions and advice welcome, asap please.

Possibly related to the other ear problem I posted? It's the left guy again.

thanks in advance.

John

Can you afford to go deaf in that ear? Your biggest problem is infection. Its probably already in there. If you don't get a prescription for antibiotics immediately, you run a huge risk of losing outer ear mechanims, or worse, inner ear destruction (which is much less repairable).

Get to a doctor quick.

Cheers,

Buffy

from: http://health.allrefer.com/health/ruptured-or-perforated-eardrum-treatment.html

A ruptured or perforated eardrum usually heals by itself within 2 months. The goal of treatment is to relieve pain and prevent infection.

Antibiotics may be used to prevent infection or to treat an existing infection. Analgesics, including over-the-counter medications, may be used to relieve pain.

Occasionally, the health care provider may place a patch over the eardrum while it heals. Surgical repair of the eardrum may be needed, if the eardrum does not heal on its own (tympanoplasty).

Warmth to the ear may help relieve discomfort. Keep the ear clean and dry while healing. Cotton balls should be placed in the ear while showering or shampooing to prevent water entering the ear.

I'd suggest at least contacting your doctor within 48 hours, and seeing if he can prescribe antibiotics.

Thank you guys for the speedy responses, I'll be getting in contact with a doctor as soon as I can gather finances. Hopefully this takes care of it's self.

What would you gents suggest I do regarding the blood?

from an infection standpoint would I be better off to risk introducing other things by trying to clean it with a cotton ball or tissue, or just letting it sit?

Let it sit. Anything you do at this point risks forcing nasty germs and bacteria into your ear. The blood coagulating will keep it out (that's what its supposed to do!). Let the doctor clean it out.

Its stuff like this where I say, paying the doctor is better than eating.

Never put anything in your ear except your elbow,

Q-tips aren't for cleaning the ear channel and it can even push the wax further in, causing accumulation. The channel should be kept clean with the help of drops, there are different kinds of them.

Right now, I guess the best type of drops would be a mix of glycerin and hydrogen peroxide, it ought to help kill the lurking bugs as well as removing wax and excessive clot. Make sure the product doesn't advise against use with ruptured tympanus, follow the maker's instructions and ask the pharmacist about your specific case.
