Can I have your signature please???

Ok, as you guys have probably figured out by now, I am really interested in you as people, not just as random thought processors or enormous egos.

From your faces to your nicknames, I like to know the story behind things. I'm just weird that way (yes, FreeT, that's not the only way I'm weird!).

So now let's talk signatures. Actually, as these change on a fairly regular basis, I want this to be an ongoing thing... If you spot a new sig, or you change your sig, please post it in this thread, along with the person it belongs to and the approximate date it appeared. My main reason for this is that there have been many sigs that I reallly enjoyed, but were changed too fast for me to copy anywhere. Also, many times we make comments in our posts about a sig, then it changes and the posts make no sense. This could serve as a reference for us in the future.

I guess, with this newest thread, I am becoming a sort of 'site historian', huh?

Trials and tribulations and stupidity still rules

Some days it just feels like I'm on a ship of fools

--- Van Morrison, "It Once Was My Life"

from: The Healing Game

As some of you know, Van is the Man. This is one of my favorite lines from one of his songs, and it perfectly describes how I feel today. This site is currently my ship, and well, you guys can probably figure the rest. No malice intended, just expressing my level of frustration over some behind-the-scenes stuff. Of course, that doesn't mean that I plan on jumping ship any time soon.

Hey, as a point of reference... FreeT, guess what I'm listening to RIGHT NOW....

Hark, now hear the sailor's cry...smell the sea and feel the sky...oh let your soul and spirit fly...

My sigs in order of appearance,..as best I can remember,....

1. Perfection is a path,...not a destination. After a bit I was feeling cocky and added, "...No,...pardon me,...I have just arrived." A poor attempt at humor.

2. Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and win due to their experience. This one was quite fitting on more than one occassion.

3. The purpose of separation of church and state is to forever keep from these shores the strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries. A quote by James Madison.

4. I understand what I am much too smart to mention..........to you. Lyrics from one of my favorite musician's songs, "Never is a promise".

5. My current "If everything were possible,....nothing would be certain." This is something that came out of a discussion FT and I had,....I can't remember the thread. This one is actually my own concoction, but due for replacement as soon as something better comes along.

Here's one I use when I participate in music forums around the web:

"Jazz isn't dead, but it sure smells funny" (Frank Zappa)

And my current sig:

"Production of useful work is limited by the laws of thermodynamics, but the production of useless work seems to be unlimited." - Donald Simanek

Believe it or not, I actually did get shivers just reading it! Does it to me every time and I listen to it regularly.

"and when the fog horn blows," you know I will be coming home... That little guitar rif, ba dink ba dink ba dink...

Oh man....

THE MAN!

OK. short term memory gone, previous sigs?

But to document this one:

Oh threats of hell and hopes of paradise!

One thing is certain - This life flies;

One thing is certain and the rest is lies;

The flower that once has blown for ever dies.

(Omar Khayam)

I found it in the latest Free Inquiry (Celebrating Reason and Humanity) magazine (Published by the Council for Secular Humanism) as a lead into an article in the "Living without Religion" section titled "Why no one ever dies" by Don Lowry. Which chronicals his family complications because he and his wife chose not to attend the "macabre ceremony ... of looking at the corpse" after his father died.

BTW, the rest of the message of the title is:

No one ever really dies, they just cease to exist.

So now I am back here. A new sig because of the Van Morrison thread. This is a compilation of individual lines from his song. Trying to condense the message of the song into a few lines.

It's a choice between fact and fiction...

And the whole world has gone astray...

And it's so cruel to expect the saviour to save the day...

And there's no mystery, and there's nothing hidden

And there's no religion here today

(Van Morrison - No Religion)

Someone must be counting me backwards...I'm not even close yet. Maybe I should have a new title at 1300 posts for "Hypollectual Wonder"...

As I saw this topic I decided to have a signature also:

It's the last verse of this poem:

Origins II

Some eons ago,

a green thing

- it's true! -

decided to be more,

it split -

and became two!

Now wonders never cease to

thrill me, that's a fact,

but nothing ever seems to

beat a human pact:

Some time ago,

two things

- soon gone!-

decided to be more,

they fused -

and became one!

Tormod wrote this poem in a book he game me full of poems written by different people, just after we met and I left for a year in England. It seems fitting as he is doing me a huge favor today even though he would rather like to sleep (Emily fell asleep around 2 last night). I hope he doesn't disapprove of publishing the poem like this. I like it very, very much, but then he is MY husband.
