Ok, let's see if anybody notices this?

I spent a year in Richmond, VA ages ago. At that time I got to see some of the east coast. I loved the mountains of West-Virgina, if i recall correctly. I would be a great chance for me and Tormod to share our experiences and to vistit old friends.

We really need to get this together and just do it... plus win some cash...

I spent two and a half years in Rock Island, Illinois. Once me and a bunch of friends took an Amtrak train from Chicago to San Francisco - 48 hours straight. Incredible scenery.

I've also driven a car from Chicago to Orlando through Ohio and Georgia (and some states I don't remember) and then back up along the East Coast to Washington. Great trip. The day after we left Florida, a hurricane hit the state and just washed away everything. That was in 1992, haven't been to the US since.

He he... well we have a lottery coupon in every week, in the Norwegian Lottery, Lotto, but it never seems to be our turn. Tonight could easily be the night... eh..

Our lottery is, of course, nothing compared to the lotteries in the States.

I've never been to a casino. Las Vegas should be fun for a day or so. And, yes, it would be fun to have some money to loose. However, I don't think I would take the time to go there. I'd much rather spend and extra day at Disney World. Now that would be fun!

Wow, what a great topic! Thanks, Yvonne, I was hoping someone would start this one!!

What were you doing in Richmond? How long ago was that? Was King's Dominion there when you were?

Yes, West Virginia has some beautiful mountains. I think there are lots of other places that you would enjoy seeing besides just those mountains though. Unc was right in that you could spend an entire week ensconced inside one single Smithsonian. Anyone that wants to head anywhere between North Carolina and Maryland, let me know, I'll be happy to be your tour guide.

Unc was also right about the West being magnificent. As a military brat, I've lived in may different parts of this country. I thouroughly enjoyed my time out West, including years in SoCal, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. I actually graduated from high school in Vegas, and a day is more than enough for a visit, I promise! It's actually not a bad place, but the nickname "sin city" fits it well. You could do the same amount of gambling in Jersey, but be close to Ne York's sights there.

My ex is from the Pacific Northwest, and that is BEAUTIFUL country up there. I love that entire region, but Seattle and area is especially spectacular, or were 15 years ago. And yes, driving the older roads is much more exciting than the new highways, unless you're in a hurry. But I disagree that the South has little to offer. Louisiana is just amazing, as is your own Gulf region, Unc. The antebellum homes in Georgia are like stepping back into Gone With The Wind, very romantic if you're into that. The Southern East Coast is also great. Jekyll Island, Georgia, is one of our favorite family vacation spots, as is South Padre in Texas. I love the history that you can find in the South, and it's beautiful there as well - just a different beauty than you'll find in other parts of our country.

Anyhow, I could go on and on, but I need to get some other stuff done. Yvonne, get your butt over here. I'd have a blast showing you around, and I have built-in babysitters for your little girls!

I was an exchange student there, in -91/92. And, yes, I think King's Dominion was there.

I loved D.C. and the Smithsonian. So much to see, learn and take in, and always so little time. I went there a few times.

I find it so weird that I want to go back to places I've already been, yet I crave to see new places. Our favorite place to go for a weekend is London. I can't think a better place to go for books, coffee (preferably with choclate, sugar and cream), tea and lots and lots of cheap magazines. Italy rates as number one also.

I understand from Tormod and various tv-shows that our vacation is a lot longer than yours (U.S) but never the less lot's of things remains unseen...

What I really do look forward to though, is going to Berlin in November with my mom. Anybody been there? Any tip about hotels? We've only booked the airplane tickets. No husband, no kids. Wonderful!!!!

I'm much the same. It just depends on my mood. I prefer going new places either alone, or just with my husband. But I prefer returning to familiar places (to me) with my children, even if it is a new place for them. I think part of that is that I like to feel comfortable in a place before I take my younger ones there, it's just my 'mommy safety instinct' or something.

Of course, like you, I could return to Italy ANYTIME!!! I can not express enough how much I loved it there.

That's strange, because I really thought that I would fall in love with Paris, and Italy would be 'just ok', but it was the opposite. I'd always dreamed of going to Paris, and had only a small desire to see Italy. Perhaps that's why I was blown away by Italy, yet Paris didn't seem to captivate me as much. Maybe I just built Paris up too much in my mind or something.

Where in Italy do you enjoy visiting? I loved Florence, and most of the rest of the Tuscan region. I know that probably sounds very cliche, but there is a reason that Tuscany is so "in", in my opinion. I think it is the most wonderful place in the entire world. Incroyable!! Magnifique!! Excellente!!! Can you all tell how much I loved it there???!!???

When we were there, we stayed at the Hotel de la Ville, right in the center of Florence. It was amazing on so many different levels. That silly movie, Under The Tuscan Sun, did nothing for the region, but that's not surprising.

My husband is planning on taking me back, with all of the children in 3 years, to stay in a villa for a week. I'd rather do it sooner, but I also want ALL of the children to be able to hang on to those memories for the rest of their lives. So many people we know have never traveled to Europe, so it's something we feel we really need ot do for our children. Of course, with all the kids, I'm not sure we will stay at the Hotel De la ville again...lol That may be just a little more than they can handle!

Milan is also incredible, but way out of my league. Too many 'beautiful people' to seem real to me. I also greatly enjoyed Trieste and Livorno, both coastal towns. Rome was rather miserable, coldest day in over 100years when we were there. Nice sites, but we did Rome with a group, so it wasn't very personal. I'd like to visit the Amalfi Coast region though.

You'll have to tell us how work went for you!

First Italy. Always a favorite subject. We stayed with an Italien friend of us (a girl and her father). It was such a nice stay. The lived in the country side outside Florence. The neighbours had to come and check us out. And of course Tormod had to taste all the different alcohol they had, where as I was just a girl....

Girls don't drink more than a glass of wine. (We hardly ever taste alcohol, but they could've asked...)

Rome! Well, people were so busy and unfriendly compared to Florence. But, when we decided to stop sightseeing we of course could't. But I've been there, done that. Tuscany any day!

When you come to Europe you must make sure to stop by us in Oslo. Not that much space, but in Norway we have a saying translating about: where there is room in the heart, there is room in the house.

Work was like normal. I've been assigned an office, but I'm waiting for a computer and a telephonenumber so for a couple of days I have to borrow an office. Tomorrow I'm going to tidy up my office, it's full of other peoples leftover papers.

We're still on summer hours, which means I can leave half an hour earlier than normal, so the day isn't too long.

I'm getting new assigments and responsibilites which is good. Always up to a new challenge.

This is out of the blue, but I'm as curios as a cat... do you do any sewing? I guess I can ask 'you' since we're about the only ones here. I have to go and paint a furniture for Emily. Nice and blue. Talk to you soon.

Sewing... Once I would have been offended had anyone suggested I should sew. I was way too liberated for anything so old-fashioned. Now I'm re-learning things my grandmother taught me years ago, and wishing I'd paid attention better, or lived much closer now!! Yes, I sew some. Mostly I try to stick with very easy patterns. My oldest daughter is a great seamstress, usually sewing little dresses for the younger girls for special occassions. Right now, I've got a quilt going, but that's slow as I've never done it alone before. Plus I'm trying to learn how to crochet. You? And you'll have to explain what 'paint a furniture' means. I'm not familiar with that term.

Also, do you mind if I ask where you and Tormod learned to read and write English so well? Or do you just have an amazing translation program on your computer???

Also, I'd love to come to Oslo. Mr. Irish just mentioned something like that the other day. "So, when are you going to Norway to meet your new friends, and do we all get to come with you?" I told him maybe we'd meet in Denmark or something, that way it would be a vacation for everyone, and we could see some incredible science museum while we are there, so Tormod can write it all off as a business expense for tax purposes!

First thing first. I'm just learning to quilt. The reason for my asking is that I just bought a magazine covering some special stores in the US. I love using my sewing machine. I've fallen in love with making purses. But time.... where does it go? I learned to crochet when I was about six, and made many aprons for my barbiegirl. I love crafting, and if I can I'll try it. Pearls, knitting, card making, plaster, painting, drawing, decoupage ... not everything is successfull but it's fun.

I started to learn English in school when I was about ten. But by then I already knew a lot of words, counting, alphabet etc. My mother and father, both Norwegians, met in Canada and has taught us at our leisure. We watch lots of English programs so we get a lot for free there, we watch English channels, I've lived two years in English speaking countries. I love to read English books. I'm trying to learn Jenny how to count in English. It's quite funny (for me) the sounds she's making while "counting".

Paint a furniture.... well ... I had to paint a furniture, the type with four drawers. We got an old one from Tormod's boss. I've had primer on tonight.
