I will make a not so bold prediction that exactly ZERO people will get to mars by 2050, or ever probably.

 

I think if you could achieve a 10% survival rate you would be doing VERY well, however, would you do something if you only had a 10% chance of living?

To high a price to pay, and far too much expense, if you are doing it for science robots can do far more, far cheaper than any human can.

 

We have to understand that this planet is all we have, we can bearly (if at all) put humans on the moon and that's just next door, and it's very expensive and very dangerous. 

 

This is a downer but I think humans will be long extinct before we have any chance of even leaving the solar system.
