Will Your Uploaded Mind Still Be You?

Of course not.

Even if you entangled the electrons in one's synapses to the electric signals in the server (assuming such a powerful quadrillion bit server can even run on elecrronics) there are some models and a possibility that the quantum world has locality, at least Einstein believed so, even though his teleparalellism didn't pan out (or so we're taught without any info on his later work during the Philadelphia Experiment).

The idea is nano surgery, you can even replace the neurons with my single-cell Vonn Neumann probes although you'd have to worry about radiation poisoning as the modify your molecular structure because they are highly radioactive.

Might want to do this first:

I have constructed the designs for Nano-factories which are a type of Self Replicating Vonn Neurmann device which do not put out radiation you may want to take notes for future reference. (http://www.scienceforums.com/topic/34375-nano-factories-discuss/)

I have constructed the designs for Nano-factories which are a type of Self Replicating Vonn Neurmann device which do not put out radiation you may want to take notes for future reference. (http://www.scienceforums.com/topic/34375-nano-factories-discuss/)

My Obsidian probe design would have self-replication/repair capabilities, utilize a reactionless drive, as well as an alcubierre drive, using electromagnetism...and it's a free energy device - all in 1. The emission of radiation is just a byproduct of an em flux caused by the magnetized friction of fast-spinning lodestone particulates.

Certain planets might have all the materials needed to start a reaction without a lab in molecules near hydrothermal vents in expanding plumes near the surface of a body of water on a sunny day...depending on whether or not the universe is infinite. Obsidian is rapidly cooled lava that can contain magnetized lodestone, light polarizing microlites, and highly photoluminescent hematite.

According to Murphy's law there is a probability that those materials could come together in such a fashion so as to heat a microcosm of space to the Planck temperature although the reaction wouldn't last long and there would be vastly astronomical odds of such an event reoccurring anywhere in an infinite universe.

When hydrothermal jets shatter the nano-particulates free from volcanic glass they can form into floating spherical microstructures within plumes when submerged in water. If these particular nano-particulates are aligned properly they can focus sunlight upon curved looping pathways creating a spiral of narrowing beams that converge in the center, it may take a while for them to spiral out of the beam-narrowing feedback loop and there's an infinitessimal chance, given an infinite universe, that Planck temperatures can be achieved, which would force the sorrounding lodestone into an electromagnetic flux if a Planck particle is produced with a highly gravimagnetic spin within such a small system.

Back on topic, can your self replicators be synthetic neurons? They can be used for initial substrate independence of people's minds, and then my obsidian probes can assimilate them as synthetic neurons don't have to worry about radiation poisoning.

This is a article written by Dr. Graziano on whether a Digital Immortality copy of you would really be you and that ramifications of Mind Uploading, read more at https://www.wsj.com/articles/will-your-uploaded-mind-still-be-you-11568386410

No, it will not be you, it will be just like a twin brother.

But Ray Kurzweil think that there is a solution for that - Your brain will be replaced in a gradual process piece by piece. First a small piece of your brain will be replaced with an equivalent digital synaptic cheep, they will ask you if you feel OK and if it's still you, you will say "Yes it's still me!". Then another piece of your brain will be replace and you will still feel that it's you, then another one and another one...

At the end of this process all your brain will be digital but you will still have the same consciousness that you had before, it will still be you but as a digital version. During this process your consciousness will be maintained continuously.

I suppose the Real question is , Are you your brain or is your brain just a storage device? If it is the case that you are your brain then basically once the brain tissue is gone you are forever lost and only duplicates can be made, however if your brain is just a storage device then it seems you could transfer the "Real you" to another storage device. I tend to hope that the brain is just a storage device but also I consider that you could be bound to those neuron's function, meaning you would have to clone your exact neurons's function to transfer the "real you". It would seem that Quantum Cloning(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_cloning) is impossible though so we may have to live with imperfect copies of ourself being not exactly "us" in another media, could you truly copy the state of every electron in the brain?

Consider bitrate and sample rate. The more samples per second the closer it appears to represent the real thing. But it's not the real thing unless the sample rate is infinite.

That's assuming the sample rate in "Real Universe" is Infinite which it is not ℏ(https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planck_constant) is the limit on the "Real Universe's Sample rate".

The structure of your brain is what you are when your brain is active, just like an electronic chip that you connect to electricity and it's start to be active. Your brain is changing all the time, every day, every week, and it's still you with all your memories and personality, so you will not have to create an exact copy of each atom, just the main structure.

So what's the maximum number? Because let's say we take the note of a violin and sample it once per second. Or ten times per second. Or 100 times per second. Or 5000 times per second. The bigger number means more samples taken which means it closer represents the real thing. If sample rate isn't infinite it means that there's a maximum number. Whatever that number is if you say it's 1,000,000 samples per second, there's a number you can't add 1 to in order to increase the sample rate.
